here again asking for advise
ive recently been thinking of a move to full frame I have two 7d mkii so im thinking buy a 5d mk iv keeping both the 7d mkii or buying the 1dx and selling one 7d mkii !!!!!
if I do go full frame which lens would I need to replace my 10mm-22mm and nifty fifty or is there a one lens solution I have a 24-105 and 100 2.8 l macro so would need a little bit wider for landscapes and mainly for my newborn granddaughter photos :naughty:

You could get a 16-35L mk3 or Tamron do a 15-30mm, both 2.8 and both better than the 10-22mm.

As for the Nifty Fifty, get a Sigma 35A.

Surely to "replace" a 50mm used on a crop sensor would need something around 85mm for FullFrame? The 50mm would however work on your full frame.

You don't need to replace the nifty fifty, just take a step closer to your subject!

The EF 24-105 f/4 will be a lot wider on full frame than on crop so you could see if that fits the bill as a one-lens solution.

If you must have the same FOV on full frame as the 10-22 on crop, the Canon 16-35 f/4 IS appears to perform very well in lens comparison tests. I sold my 17-40 f/4 a while ago with the intention of replacing it with the Canon 16-35 f/4 IS at some point.

Alternatively pick up a 21mm prime such as the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 (heavy!), the Voigtlander Color Skopar 20mm f/3.5 SL II Aspherical for EOS or the Olympus OM 21 f/3.5 with an OM/EOS adapter when you need to go wider than 24mm.

thanks for the comments now which camera ?:naughty:

For the type of photography you do, landscapes and portraits, then the 5D iv would be the best solution. Assuming you mean the 1Dx Mk1 then the 5div is a newer and more advanced body. The 1dx will have a few advantages but these are more weighted towards sports action or wildlife. The 1dx is an absolute brick, I use one because I shoot a lot of wildlife in less than optimum light and it's well suited for that but hanging that body from your neck for a day is no joke.

thanks Laurence but my main interest in photography is wildlife mainly birds that's why my interest in the 1dx plus keeping a 7d mkii but so i can have my 100-400 on one body and the 1dx on my 600mm f4 with converters but I do like the idea of a 5d mk iv much newer body etc

At the end of the day, which camera do you want? There is no point in the intellectual exercise of which is better, if you buy a 5D MkIV and you're still thinking all the time about if a 1DX is better.

I was going to buy a D7200, then thought I should compromise with a D610 ... but I knew what I wanted was a D750 so buying that was the financially sensible option even though it cost more.

I didn't realise that your interest was mainly wildlife/birds like mine. I've no idea what the tracking is like on the 5Div, on the 1dx it's excellent. Price wise the 5Div is a lot more than a second hand 1dx but if you have an itch you've probably got to scratch it!:)

I've got a good friend who is a very good bird photographer.

He absolutely swears by the 7d2 over the ff canons even when you are not reach limited.

His reasoning is to do with depth of field, you can be further back with the 7d2 and achieve the same framing but gain more depth of field at any given aperture which is key when shooting small birds.

Having said all that are your 7d2s holding you back noise wise? Bear in mind that a cropped full frame image will become noisier too.

If you love the thought of owning a 1dx/2 for the fun of it go for it, but if you just fancy a new camera I believe the 5d4 will put you closer to what you are used to with its extra pixels. Also bear in mind canon have taken a step forward with the sensor in the 5d4 and shadows, arguably allowing you an extra noise benefit in the way exposures can be pushed...

I've decided to put full frame to the back of my mind and concentrate on getting the best out of my 7d mk 2's thanks for all the input

Hi, I have the 5D mk3 and mk4. The mk4 tracking is far superior to the older model, which wasn't bad, obviously the 1DX ii will be better as it is a specialist camera, all depends on the amount of wildlife you photograph, and whether it's worth paying nearly £2000 more for the 1DX?

Hi phil my reasons for a full frame is I've recently become a grandad and want to take lots of pics of my granddaughter and also when I'm out walking to get better colours in any landscape pics i take and I'm about to set up a little macro studio in my shed to use my mp-e 65mm with thinking I'll get better colours in any flowers /insects etc. but I've been wrong before [emoji57]

Phil

Couple of things to consider. The weight of the 1Dx . I have a 1Ds111. OK many years old but still works well. But it is heavy, compared to my 5Dlll. Secondly I would think you would get as good colours from your existing cameras,

Hi Gary, as chapper is saying, you need to take the weight into account, and a lot of colours can be controlled in post. I was close to buying the 1DX but being a serious amateur and not a professional put the money I saved towards the final piece in my personal jigsaw and bought a 400mm 2.8f. Special offers are slowly starting to appear now for the 5D mk4 so might be worth sitting tight a little while longer. Whatever you decide both cameras are excellent.

Hi Gary, if it is any help, I have a 7D2 and a 5D3 and I can see no difference in the colour between them whatsoever.

Thanks ppl but I've already decided I'm sticking with the 7dmkii's going to try and get the most out of them I was just explaining why I was wanting the ff cameras many thanks
