Hi folks,

I'm now in the position to get a 5D mkiii but just wondering what peoples thoughts are as to the future of the price as it comes towards the end of this current model. How did the price of the mkii react to the announcement of the mkiii? and would that be a good indicator as to how the current model's price will change as the mkiv gets announced possibly towards the end of this year?
Whilst I know that the mkiii would be a great camera for me, I'd be kicking myself if in 9 months time the new model was released and not at a great premium or the price of the mkiii drops significantly at that point.
Whilst I know than no one knows for sure I'd love to hear peoples thoughts

Yes but just think of the enjoyment you would have had taking photos with your 5D3 over the next 9 months :D

Seriously though is the 5D3 cheaper now than when I bought mine, Definitely, do I wish I'd waited, not one bit. Granted there will possibly be a drop in price when the new one is eventually priced. If it worries you why not save a few extra pennies and look at a second hand, low shutter model.

Inevitably prices will always come down over a model life, that's the nature of retail. If your happy with the prices and deals now, then buy it and enjoy it

All good points, and it's almost inevitable that I'll be pushing the button by then end of the week, but its a big outlay for me so just giving It careful thought.
I'll be buying from HDEW so the difference between a low shutter count used and a new one isn't that great.

Bought a couple from HDEW, you wont regret it, although the price was slightly cheaper when I got them than they are now.Its always best to just use what you have now and not to wait, everything gets cheaper eventually in cameras and lenses, no point fretting about it. The 5D3 is an absolute beautiful camera to shoot with. All thoughts of cost go out the window when paired with a nice prime.

Something I have wondered, I'm going to carry on acquiring the lenses I want (All EF) and then move to this by which point the new camera should be realised and prices for mark III fall significantly, though if mark IV is within reach may go for that ;)

With the 5DS and 5DSr being priced where they are I can't see the 5D mkIV being much different to the current mkIII (when it eventually arrives). Might mean that there some bargain new mkIIIs around from old stock at first.

Buy a used one with low actuations. I just bought my second very recently for a fraction of the price I paid for the first.... And my second one is like new. At the very worst, I'll lose a couple of hundred over 3 years with it with normal use.

When the new model comes in, you'll be telling yourself I can wait for this one instead and the neverending expectation for a better price begins, get the 5D now enjoy it and never regret spending few more quids

You should wait for the 5DV

:)

Seriously, go for it. You'll be kicking yourself over the summer if you hadn't bought one.

Haha, she's still a bit touchy from finding a receipt for an exhaust for my old sports car in my jeans years ago...

That's a great idea, she can't reach the ladder.

Got my Mkiii about 2 months ago and just paid whatever the prices was, not bothered about the new ones coming out or the possibility of the MKIV. It's the camera I have always wanted, my only regret was not buying it sooner and wasting money on a 70D as a stop gap

Might be worth waiting until the end of the current Canon cashback promotion. Last year they doubled the cashback for the final week without warning. If they do it again that'll be £500 off a UK retail model.

It was double cashback at the NEC show, I just didn't have the cash then. Was an extremely good price for UK stock and I'm sure plenty were sold that day but still a touch pricier than HDEW.

Done it, just need to remember to sweep the communal Ipad for order / tracking emails.....:cautious:

As always thanks for the advice...

Glad you took the plunge.

I'm of the view that if you can afford it , buy it as there will always be a price drop in the future and a new model is just around the corner :)

Defending your decision to SWMBO well, that's a whole other discussion - good luck :D

Remember, it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission ;)

If I make it through the ordering process undetected I'm counting on the Frau's inability to distinguish between a 7D and a 5Dmkiii. And that she doesn't see them both in the bag at the same time...
If I don't post for a while and a job lot of misc tog gear appears on eBay you will know how things turned out...!

When I bought my 24-70 without broaching the subject with the missus, the credit card company decided to block it due to possible fraud, then called my home phone number to check whether the payment was genuine or not. Guess who was at home at the time! :(

My wife pays very little attention to my camera gear but even she noticed the shiny numbers on the front were different on my 7D and 5D2.
I'm not sure how much a 2nd hand camera that's been used as a blunt instrument would be worth.... ;)

If I was in the market for a new DSLR I would certainly put the Canon Mk3 in the Top 3 if not the top 1.
I would have thought prices would plummet with the new Canon's on the market but as above the 5Dmk3 is still and will always be a capable body.

I took plunge and bought one a couple weeks ago. As has been said I couldnt see point waiting, there will always be something better coming round the corner and you are only here once!

I can't see price dropping hugely, they will always need to keep certain price point gaps between models.

Besides if I need the 5D4 there is always the other kidney.

It nowhere near an 'end' of model camera! It's only 2 years old. It took canon nearly 5 years to go from the mk2 to 3.

Or show her the invoice from HK which has an understated value for your item... see love it was cheaper than cheap bargain of the century :D

My biggest fear in life is that when I die, my wife sells my camera equipment for what I told her it cost.

The 5DS and 5DR are the bodies that will drop in price rapidly. I would expect them to be sub £2K this time next year, with the 5D3 and 6D dropping perhaps £100-£200 max.

It's currently doing 250.00 off rom Canon and retailers... Anyone think it will get any cheaper in the next couple of months?

I doubt this helps but i bought my 5d ii around the time the mark iii was coming/came out and i bought it for £1000ish 2nd hand in very good condition - i think this was summer 2012 if that helps any indicatin of price points

Three years - was introduced in early 2012. The 6D is two years old.

Number of places are doing double-cashback until 6th May, so £500 off RRP.

Ok, so there's still a couple of years at least until we see a mk4 if their release schedules stay the same, as they tend to do.

So my point still stands, don't wait for a mk4, you'll be waiting a while...

The 5D4 will be early next year almost certainly so basically a year away.

They have to get the 1DX2 out first.

Do you know something we don't?? ;)
