5D MKii to either 7D MKii or 5D MKiii - Opinions please

Good afternoon,

Been a little while since I've posted on here :wave:

Currently using a 5D2 - I love the camera and the pictures I get with it. I do however have the itch to upgrade and the 5D2 could easily find a new home with family members.
Main reason this has come up is that I've been looking at the AF systems in the 7D2 and the 5D3 and they do seem way better than what I'm currently using. I like to shoot a bit of everything now and although the 5D2 excels at people and places (which is all I used to shoot) it isn't so good with wildlife and anything that moves too quick. The extra reach of the 7D2 also appeals. Cost also comes into it too and I don't know if I can justify the price tag of the 5D3 right now. Current lens wise I have 24-70 2.8 MKii, 70-200mm F4 IS and 50mm which I guess would suit either camera.

I suppose I am answering my own question with regard to which I should go for out of the two.. so my question would be - If I ditch the the 5D2 for a 7D2, although I gain a much better AF system, burst speed and reach, is there anything that you would see me missing from my 5D2 / regretting about the change?

Any opinions appreciated.

Just a thought, have you looked at the Nikon D750? I owned a Mk3 and its a significantly better camera. Cant comment on the 7D II but it looks nice for sports
 
I've used a 5D2 to shoot both wildlife and fast jets for the past 3-4 years and never found it a problem to get pin sharp shots. The fps is a bit low so for fast moving subjects you have less chance of getting the shot (although if you set the camera up properly and practice panning you shouldn't have a problem). I've now moved up to the 5D3 and the main pluses for me are both the increased fps and the high ISO capabilities. I can now confidently shoot at ISO3200 knowing that providing the image is correctly exposed I'm going to get hardly any noise. I'm more than happy that I upgraded.
 
Thanks for the replies - Definitely want to stick with Canon but thanks for the suggestion. It's made a tougher decision looking at UK prices at £1999 currently or grey for £1649 on the 5D3. Makes it more affordable.
 
Canon has modernised the 7D in the mark ii mostly in the auto focus system but really the camera for the most part is still rather close to its predecessor. This would make me lothe to pay the exorbitant price there asking for the mark ii. If I was thinking of getting a 7D Mark ii I would hold on until there used prices come down or until Canon brings something new and hopefully better out. Actually I took it a step further and jumped ship. That's just my 2 cents for what its worth.
 
mkII is a nice camera. 5D3 is excellent but not as versatile perhaps. Everyone is raving about the D750 which looks as though it might be the best value for money camera Nikon has produced for a while. Great sensor and AF apparently. But latest is greatest and I don't think that the price that Canon are asking for the MkII is daft money.
 
Having upgraded from the 7D to the 7D2, it is a big upgrade - AF, noise, focus points, shutter noise - all are a big improvement, and, in my opinion, it is well worth the price for a "mini 1DX".

I read a ton of previews ahead of the 7DII release as I was heading that way. However, FF and ISO beckoned and 5D MKIII at a similar price point made the decision for me. Not regretted it. Cue 5D MKIV...:banana:
 
Nobody else has said it but you will need to add some new glass to keep your current range of focal lengths if you go 7d as the wide end of your 24-70mm will no longer be very wide. To maintain the width and quality you are looking at a 17-50mm f2.8 which isn't cheap! If I were you I'd also want to swap the 50mm for a 30/35mm prime which again will cost more.

Personally if it was me I'd go mkiii!
 
I recently upgraded from a 5D mk2 to a mark 3. It is a significantly better camera in all respects. The increased fps and the AF as well as the quieter shutter are very useful for bird photography. Higher ISO's are also a lot better. However I do agree with the post above you may need to change your glass.

I love me 5d3 - upgraded from 5d2 and 7d... Don't regret it - I get sports, birds... If you can afford it, consider also the 70-200 2.8 ii - fab lens.

You'll not regret it. Its a fine all round camera. I've just sold mine for a 7D MkII though. But I have another FF so its more for the reach than any criticism of the 5D
 
The 70-200 2.8 is mk ii is next on the list actually! Need to save for a bit first though. Expensive hobby!
