Have tried a few times to discover a simple flashgun that would work on my 5D 11,Having owned it for some time i only would have used flash once,I have ruled out Youngnu on reliability issues,I would only use it for the odd group pics,I have a 500D with its pop up flash but plan to sell it as I havnt used it for 2 years now,I have a 17-35L on my 5D mk11 and need the flashgun to work with this combo,Advise appreciated.

I've had a few Nissin flashguns that have worked perfectly with my various bodies. I've had a Di622 Mk 1 & 2 and a Di866 Mk 1 & 2, the Mk2 versions have newer firmware and are compatible with the newer cameras but the 5D Mk2 will be compatible with any. The Di622 is similar in features to the Canon 430EX and the Di866 is similar to the Canon 580EX and are about half the price. The flashes are excellent and can also be used as 'wireless off camera flashes' with the right bodies.

I got the Nissin Di622 and it does not work on my 5D MK11,When I contacted Nissin they could not modify it,Having searched a number of times it seems that Canon might have made it difficult for third party devises.

When I had a 5D MkII it worked perfectly with the Di622 MkI that I had at the time. Maybe your 5D MkII has got a different firmware to the one I had and therein lies the problem. It was only when I got a 60D that I started having compatiblity problems with it so I ended up selling it on as I couldn't find anyone able to update the firmware either. The Di866 MkI worked perfectly with the 60D and my 5D MkII and 5D MkIII so I bought a Di866 MkII instead of a Di622 MkII and used the Di866 MkI for my backup body.

I've recently got a 70D and I know the Di866 MkII works fine with that but I'm going to try the MkI now and see if that has any problems with the newer bodies. It works perfectly on the wifes 650D but the 70D is a fairly big upgrade so who knows?

Ironic that i updated the firmware prior to getting the Di622 MK1,Will look at the firmware with a view to changing back (if possible)

I use yongnuos 560, 560II, 565ex, 568ex and 568exII with my 5D2 and had no problems at all.
