17-40L 2.8.... mmmmmm......

The reason I went for this is that I have got used to the 10-22 on a 40D and wanted more or less the same field of view. Looking forward to getting out on the beach tomorrow. Will give my 100 2.8 macro a try as well and see if I really need to upgrade that one :)

That was my reason too. I knew when selling the 40D that the 10-22 would be sorely missed, so it was a no-brainer to bag myself the 17-40 for the 5D MkII.
 
Without knowing what kind of photography / video you specialise in, it really is impossible for anyone to start recommending lenses. I have a around 20 lenses ranging from new and old prime glass (L, Zeiss, Olympus, Minolta). One lens will clearly out perform the other depending of environment, subject etc...

Went out for the first time with the 5DII and 17-40L this morning. Used to think that the 40D with the 10-22 was good, but this is amazing!
