Have had a 5D for just over a month now and am suffering quite badly with dust on the sensor (have also scratched the sensor, but that another story). When I go out I try to swap lenses as little as possible but am having real problems.

Nothing more disappointing than going out taking some really good pictures! and then when looking at them on the PC find there is fluff/dust/hairs, yes the lot on the images.

I have some special cleaning pads which seem to work quite well but as soon as I change the lens (however) careful I am there is a very good chance of introducing stuff on the sensor.

I am now contemplating getting rid of my 16-35 f2.8 L and buying a 24-105 IS L and just not swapping lenses any more.

Great shame as the 16-35 is an excellent lenses.

Any idea's ..............................

I clean the mirror first when cleaning the internals, then the sensor, I only use a rocket blower followed by Pec Pads and fluid .

There have been lots of threads on sensor cleaning and I have to admit you'd be surprised how much pressure you have to apply to get rid of marks, are you sure it's dust ? I had a condensation mark on my sensor and it took ages to realise:thumbsdown:

Don't forget to check the correct eclipse fluid for the 5D as it has a different coating on the sensor (if I remember correctly ) & you may have to use E2 rather than original eclipse fluid.

Please bear in mind though that I am not 100% sure on this one but it'd definitely be worth checking

Where do you get the E2 or eclispe fluid from?

The scratch I reffered to may just be a mark on the lens, I have noticed with the number of cleans the sensor gets it seems to be getting better (maybe wishful thinking).

I never had this problem with my 400D or my girlfriends 350D used to just clean them and the dust would go, it just not like that with the 5D, its much more differcult as the sensor is the size of the access (not like the 400D where you have a gap between the sensor and the access).

Have a look here I clean my 5D with E2 and pec pads without problems. There is a very good chance it will look worse before it gets better.

Work in a very clean environment, use only one drop of E2 on a swab and you should be fine.

As to lens changing I never worry about changing the lens but i do always turn the camera off first and hold the camera so the opening in the body faces the ground while the lens is off. Don't need to see the face of the camera if you look for the red dot on the lens for alignment.

I(my girlfriend) has cleaned off all the fluff/bits and the mark actually seems to be getting less! (fingers crossed)

If you don't have one it is still worth getting a rocket blower as it will remove the odd spot that might appear between major cleans.

Assume you got some E2 fluid etc. locally? or are you using something else? Do be careful....
