Can someone shed some light on this subject please.

I have a 5D mk2 and Im shooting in raw, I adjusted the 5D Colour to plus 3, Sharpening to plus 2 etc in the setup on the back of the camera. So now when I take a shot, the LCD image is displayed as quite colourful and sharper picture... Cool - The problem is when I import these images into Aperture 3.

The images import exactly as what I saw in the back of the camera with the same bright colours, but only for a moment until the image is fully loaded in my Mac and then it reduces the colour to some under-saturated image, nothing like my settings or what I saw in the camera LCD.

I understand I’m shooting raw and I can re-adjust these images again in Aperture, but this is time consuming as I would rather import what I see in the camera obviously allowing minor discrepancies.

I did a test and shot in JPG and imported them, they comes out exactly the same colour as what I saw in the camera LCD

Why are these values not staying with the my Raw image files, when I import them ? Can you please help

Hi
thank you for your reply

Would you know how or where to get DPP, Im sure I had the disk when I purchased my 2 camera's the 5D and 7D but I cannot find the disks. I have moved and a lot of my stuff are in boxes still.

I looked at the Canon website but I cannot find where to download the DPP from

Thanks

Thanks Mark but that doesn't work its an updater link and assumes I have the software already installed on my Mac. Im sure I have the the software on my missing disks but I have never installed DPP.

Hi Mark
I had a look at your website Nice work

What kit do you use?

Wow you have the full range, so what kind of lenses do you use, I especially love the crisp sharp images you have they so stand out. I have a 5D and 7D 24-70 and 70-200 but I still like your shots better. What am I missing? Lol

The reason your shots are flat and un-processed is because you're shooting in Raw format. As the name suggests, this is the raw image from the sensor which then requires processing. If you want to use images with in camera processing, shoot in jpg.

what you're seeing on the LCD screen is the adjusted shot done 'in camera' according to your settings.

when you transfer the raw file to the pc, you'll only see the raw file.. not the one on the LCD screen. You will need to shoot in RAW+JPEG to see the adjusted shot as well when you upload. Hope this helps.

Hi Stevelmx5 and Leftcurl
Thank you for your reply much appreciated.

I understand now there is no hand shake between the camera and software but only on Canon's DPP as mark1616 already explained.

I some how assumed what you set in the camera will be transferred to all software

Hi cameron. If you want to retain the in camera settings you specify, shoot in jpg. This will then apply the processing in camera and save the completed jpg image. If you shoot in raw, none of the in camera editing is actually applied to the cr2 raw file even though you will see the effect on the screen of the camera.

I dont want to sound rude but you've got some considerable kit and this is explained in the manuals for both camera bodies.

Cheers
Steve
