How the blazes are you supposed to get photoshop cs to show raw files from a 5D?

It's the first time i've tried to open them on my desktop PC which runs on CS and I can't get them to open.

is there a way I can get the camera raw 3.7 update from cs2 to work with CS? they both appear to be the same format 8bi but replacing the file on it's own only allows it to read the metadata and not show the image.

Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to Cs2......3 or heaven forbid....lightroom

:annoyed:

I hate having to spend money :bang:

looks like i'll be editing my pics on my laptop for a wee while then as I don't think this old machine will handle cs3 or light room very well :(

Why not give Canons DPP a go the latest version of it will produce converted RAW files with more detail in them than ACR, Admitadly there isnt as much adjustment as ACR4.1 but you dont need all the adjustments (most people over adjust anyway in the RAW conversion) Just apply basic adjustment then output to TIFF and do the majority of your adjustment in Photoshop.

I've never used the dpp software before, will it allow quick adjustments of exposure?

Yes, its just Canons version of a RAW converter and the latest version (download from there website) is very good, and under rated by a lot of people.

Until PS3 came out, I used DPP all the time for RAW conversion, far better than CS or CS2 raw convertor.

My DPP version is 2.2.0.1.

Is this the latest?

I tend also to use file viewer utility on the 1Ds (mk 1) although it will not open .CR2 file extension, however it will show the focusing points, whereas I can't do this on DPP, I don't think.

George.

PS, Les, just realised I forgot to enclose the postage for the battery you lent me, will rectify when I come back from Raasay in 2 weeks. Sorry!!

Don't worry about the postage, it was only a couple of bob, pleased to help out :)

Cool, i'll give dpp a root out.

My laptop has CS2 which opens the images OK, so I'm saved from splurging a fortune on new bits and bobs.
