5D/5Dmk2 advice please

having used the 1dmk2 and the 40D, i am thinking that i'm not really all that keen on the 1dmk2 and am considering selling it ! however, the reason i bought the 1d is purely for the superiour autofocus system, so any replacement would require good autofocus. i quite fancy going full frame so i'm thinking 5D or 5Dmk2, how does the autofocus system on the 5D/5Dmk2 compare to the 1Dmk2 ? i have suitable glass for full frame i just need to be sure about focus speed, any help would be appreciated
 
Sadly, neither will come close to your 1D2 in both speed and accurracy.

thats one of the things i dislike about the 1d, the piddly little screen, what looked good on screen at oulton yesteday, looks crap on the laptop !
 
5D mkI lcd is only 2.5", but I came to it from a Canon 10D with only 1.8", so it was a huge improvement....but in terms of the lcd quality, it could do with some improvement - supposedly the 5D MkII lcd is pretty special at 3".

The LCD is super crisp with the enhanced resolution and 3", as for the AF, the 5D Mk II won't touch the 1D II in the areas that Canon Bob describes.

Having said that, the AF system on the 5D II is no slouch..
 
You can pick the 5D Mark II up for under 2,100 now at a number of places now, so if you are going to take the plunge maybe nows the time!
 
I have a 5D mk1 and have purchased a 40D as a second body for wildlife as the 5D AF is just not up to the job, especially for tracking moving subjects such as birds in flight. I believe the mk II doesn't really have much improvement if any for the AF. The 5D is a superb FF camera, but AF is one of it's few weaknesses.
 
hmmm.........looks like i'm stuck with the 1Dmk2 or get a 1DSmk2 or sell the 40D and get a 5D/5Dmk2 and keep the 1Dmk2 :thinking::nuts::bang::bonk:

or keep things as they are and tape a magnifying glass to the 1D :D
