Does anyone have a repair manual or has ever taken apart a 580? Its packed in again after its swim. Ive got as far as removing all the screws and nearly splitting it but there seems to be a catch or something keeping it from splitting into two. Ideas?
 
Yupp and there's a similar hole that I've prodded and poked to no avail
 
before you do anything to it - are you aware of the dangers of capacitors? Flashes have a big punch of electricity stored in them and you could be up for a very nasty surprise if you do not take adequate precautions.
 
I've got a service manual for the MkII that might enlighten you, I suspect that they're very similar. Drop me a PM with your email address if you want it.

Thanks ive seen the mkii version and it appears to be different. Or at least I cant get the damn catch open.
