Evening all,

Just wonder how many of you use an external pack to help power your 580's? I'm looking at grabbing one to cut the recycling times a little. Does anyone know of a reason, other than the weathersealing, not to buy one of the YongNuo versions or similar?

Enjoy the rest of your Easter weekend.

It's just a battery box with a lead. I think they should work well.

I guess they are twice as likely to drive the flash hard enough to trip the safety cut out, which I believe the 580EXII has whereas the 580EX does not, but I don't know if this is Canon problem in the same way that it can be with some Nikon guns.

It's more than a battery box with a lead.
It puts out 300V which helps to charge the capacitors directly.

It is less likely to trigger the thermal trip on your 580EXII because the main heat producer in the flash gun is the charging circuit. With the external pack it lightens the load on the internal charging circuit.

There is no reason not to buy the yong nuo version, it's well made, comes with a pouch and velcro strap to attach to a stand, and is significantly cheaper than the canon version.

I have the canon and the yong nuo version for my 580EXIIs. I've had no probs at all with the yong nuo version. All I would say is I give both similar respect in terms of not repeatedly firing the guns in quick succession.

:)
