I want to use the 580 II with the lencarta's the 580 will be used to just add different colours to the background using gels...

whats the best way to do this.

I have the RF602's from FITP, and the lencarta radio triggers as well

can I fire the 580 by firing the lencartas? or would it need a radio trigger?

Cheers all..

and a big tanks to Garry for getting the new kit to me so quickly!!! looking forward to using it tomorrow.

:)

Put the 580 in slave mode and all should be well. The built in IR receiver should trigger it as it does with my Jessops 360 AFD and Lecarta Safari.... You probably could use triggers but there should be no need for them..

I hope that helps..

I didnt think the 580 worked the same as the jessops?

I thought the jessops one reacted off the flash of light it receives from the other master flash.

and the slave in the 580 had to be triggered via IR ?

could be wrong.

580 doesn't have an IR slave that will respond to normal flash; it will only respond to Canon Speedlite master.

Put the RF-602 on the 580 and that should trigger the Lencartas via their optical slaves.

With the 580 on full manual, start at 1/4 power and see how you get on. X-sync at 1/160sec or longer with the Yongnuo triggers.

Does the 580 have an optical trigger? I thought the slave mode waits for IF or preflash info.

Ahh thanks for that.. I did look online to check it had an IR trigger, but did not see any info about how it worked..

Sorry...

got it all going with the rf602's - good bit of kit I must say!!! got the background being coloured with the 580ex II... and the beauty dish up high focused on the model... wish I had a boom arm though so I could get a more control.

but am happish with the results... :) got most the day to play an get some shots done :)

yeah killed quite a bit of time, as the MUA took her sweet time (friend of mine - so was ok). Shots came out well, was happy with them, think I took around 400 that day!

will post some up once i've selected the ones I like, have done a little editing on a few of them, nothing major... I just can't get over how sharp the 5dII is.

I shot with the 50mm 1.2 most of the day!! :D

one thing I found was the I should have used some sort of diffuser to wash the background out completley, as I found even with moving around alot there was the bright spot of light with just one 580ex II.

link to the shoot and a few images that i've edited so far, the 580 was used to light the background in a few of the shots, I haven't put those up yet as I completely happy with the results...

You're on the way fella! Some nice pictures on the link :)

And as you say there, credit also to the model and make-up artist. When you've got a good subject in front of the lens, it's hard to go too far wrong
