52 weeks later.

Well done Gary, congrats on being here for one year and totting up 10k posts. I have enjoyed looking through many of your photos and i look forward to seeing more in the future.

I don't post often but I always stop to read what you have to say if I see your name in a thread, your always worth listening to and I enjoy the pics.

Inspirational stuff, long may your fires burn Sir.

All that gear, all that talent, so little dress sense! :D

If I end up being able to produce photographs half as good as yours on my first anniversary of joining, I'll be a very happy man!

Keep doing what you do fella, you're more of an inspiration that you could ever know (and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks that!).

Guys, so many awesome replies! I am going to reply to you all individually, I promise, but I need time :D

Just in from a HUGE day. Left at 7am, went to Zoo, left Zoo at 2pm, went to the Edinburgh "Santa Stroll"....

Just arrived home.

Was in a pub taking a break, about 4pm, and I heard "Gary, Gary"...I looked over at a table of Photographers, didnt recoganise any of them....

Turns out they recognised me from TP and Flickr! We spent a few hours shooting together, great guys.

Small world :D

Gary.

Erm, hasn't Matt only just passed 9,000? I think EG can be officially crowned King of Spam! :D

However we all know who will win the Forum Nutter award don't we?!!!

Well done gary,i think you have done really well in the time,i like to see people get on.

Congrats Gary on all your achievements to date. You really have come on far in a short time:clap:

Jeez!! I feel inadequate. I joined 9th dec 2007 and only have 643 post under my belt! Well done Gary, You are a spot on bloke. Thanks for the kind comments you have made regarding my shots.
You have done remarkebly well in that short time. You will no doubt continue to do so in the next 12 months. ;)

Bloody great post Gary   You are a fantastic photographer.

People say that I have had a massive inprovement in a year. Put me next to you and, by god I have got some learning/improving to do.

I have massive respect for you. I hope you keep up the fantastic work and the fantastic post rate

Seriously, I look forward to seeing more pictures of yours on the BBC and where ever else they end up gracing :)

You are a honour to the forum and if any asks 'Show us an illustartion of what TPF is all about' then you sir, are it.

Best of luck for the future,

Matt.

Gary, you're probably the most honest guy I've ever 'met' on the internet and people would be lying if they said your photography hadn't come on leaps and bounds. Inspirational to all of us and just goes to show what time and effort can do. You've certainly made me think whether or not I'm doing enough to really get to where I want and if I'm honest I don't think I am.

You'd take even more photo's if you weren't posting 30 times a day... :D

Gary, congrats on the 10000 posts, happy TP Birthday, and what amazing photographs you take after only 1 year.

Wow i need to get posting more :D  im well behind
i have not even posted one photo yet

Congrats Gary and well done. You have not only improved your own photography but have helped many others to improve as well, including me, so thanks a lot mate, you're a top bloke.:thumbs::thumbs:

Spammer

Only joking, i would say your pics have improved loads but after seeing those "lucky" ones i cant say i agree

some fantastic effort and work on your half, keep it up

Agree with all the sentiments expressed so far - you've progressed with your photography so much in just a year Gary, and have also been a very supportive and helpful member on here.

Can't wait to see the photographic gems you're sure to produce in 2009 mate - keep it up!

Gary mate, you're a real inspiration round here, and it's a pleasure to have met you in London on the meet.

All I can say is, Can't wait for the 25th! Bring it on baby!

:naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:

And your favourite 2 words are not "God damnit"!

I can think of another two words, rhyme with Duck and Poo :D

Sounds like you have come on leaps and bounds in your first year. Congrats!

Do you have one piece of advice to pass on?

I'm a relative new boy to the board. I read your original post and I just loved the passion you expressed about your photography. Truly inspirational.

All the best

Mark

A really good speach mate but one thing, how can you be nominated for most improved photographer when you were that damn good already! Honestly you have a natural talent and its fantastic that your using it. Keep up the good work :)

Good timing huh, 10,000th post, exactly 1 year to the date from when I joined these fine forums :D
My name is Gary, and I am a photographer.

Shed loads mate, but if I had to offer just one tiny bit of advice....

Treat photography with the respect it deserves. Some people say it comes naturally, and some people say you can have raw talent. Thats all good and well, but at the end of the day, you still need to learn how to use that talent. Photography in my opinion is HUGELY complex, and hugely involving. Spend as much time away from the camera "obsessing" over photography, as you do behind the lens. Seek answers to EVERY question you have. When you have your answer, ensure you practise and perfect said answer to the point where if someone where to ask you the same question, you could answer with confidence.

I dunno, I feel it will work for me. Obsess, obsess and then obsess some more.

One other tiny bit of advice, treat all of this as one big personal investment. Every photo you take, every thread you reply to, every time you ask for help, and offer help, just imagine you are putting little pennies in a bank of "Photography knowledge". Its the ultimate savings account, and I do mean that. Master this hobby, and be your own boss. Its that simple.

Gary.
