weekly 52 in 2013: Brian of Bozeat : COMPLETE

Hey Brian

Rock - It was too cloudy here for me on day one... haven't looked again yet !!! - Loving the detail of the first one and by far my favorite :)

2nd image I'm not so sure, the curved horizon is that distortion or the landscape ?? and the moon looks great but too fake for me - having said that I love the halo of light coming from behind it :)

Thanks, the second one was a bit of an experiment. The landscape is curved there btw, it seemed impossible to darken the sky behind the moon in a believable way...

Thanks for your honesty DK, back to the drawing board on that one! :)

nice moon shot Brian - perfect positioning in the frame.

Well controlled highlights in the bright bits too.

Second one didn't really work for me either BTW.

hi ya

I can just remember you landscape shot & think it almost worked.but the moon did seem a little pasted it...still , we learn by trying ( I sure know that  )

The super moon.....cracking detail , really well handled exposure , nicely positioned in the frame & a great black background... it may just be me but it does seem a touch over sharpened

I agree, had a look and the jpeg was MUCH sharper than the DNG in Lightroom, so I've deleted the jpeg and uploaded the DNG instead.

Thanks

nice moon there Brian, very sharp, nice contrast, nice positioning in the frame can't fault it.

Just to echo what everyone else has said about "rock" Brian

Great detail been captured there, sharp, good choice of composition, technically very good

Really can't say any more about the moon than has already been said, but it's a very nice shot Brian.
I do like that you haven't planted it splat centre in the middle of the frame, but gone for something a bit different instead.

Well done on getting to the halfway point

Thanks to everyone who has commented over the first half of this 52. Where would I be without you? (having a life probably ) anyway... on to week 26!

week 26 - Pair.

I took a "tester" with my new (second hand) Nikon D7000. It was never meant to be "THE" shot at all, it wasn't very bright at my desk so I needed ISO 3200  hand held to get f4 (for the DOF I wanted). I was so pleased with the result that I decided to publish it "as is".

who-hooo, this a late birthday present from someone??? Or outgrown the D5100 already? ;)

shots a good 'un, ISO noise performance looks really good (same sensor as D5100 is it not??).

Nice placement of the two dices with the numbers all alligned the same way, like the blues backed by the yellow box too.

Not sure about this one Brian pair of dice yes, but not sure you need the box very good for such a high iso though

Thanks Graham, I think it was the combination of colours that attracted me in in the first place.

PS. I have so many lenses now that I needed a second body to save me from swapping so often. Same sensor yes, but the D7000 has "extra" features that do not come with the D5100 - and visa versa - so now I have the best of both worlds. :)

Thanks for commenting.

These are "gamers" dice - The box (apart from the colour combination) is there to put the dice into context. An enviromental portrait of inanimate objects if you will!

Using a shallow depth of field is my attempt to make the dice the subject of the composition. I matched their positions to create some interest, did you check ALL the numbers matched? thought so! - something I learned from the juxtaposition week :)

Quite like the dice, but the RH die looks a tad OOF. I think they would work better without the board.

High ISO works well.

Cheers.

Oooo a new Camera too - Congrats Brian

I like that, a great DoF across the whole of the Die, a real good image for the ISO, I bet you love it !!!!

Thanks. I'm very happy indeed :)

Cheers!

Oh, that rock shot is really, really clever. I mean, it's technically a great moon shot, but it's just very clever as well. Top hole.

Love the d20s - can I ask why you went for two fives, as a matter of interest?

Hope you're enjoying the d7000. Words cannot express how much I love mine.

Thanks for your kind words, I LOVE the moon me!

Regarding the fives... I actually wanted to have the number twos the right way up in the picture, two being a pair and all that. Hey it works for me!

I'm very happy with my D7000. Had another play last night and I'm convinced that it has better image quality than my D5100, probably just cos i'm thrilled with my new toy, but I will run back to back tests next week I think.

Hi Brian

woohooo...new toy for you...gotta love the D7000....maybe you can give me some hints & tips

loving the snail shot for shape ,great focus , nice angle & good lighting & lots of shapes

Pair....love the colors, the placement & the matching numbers..really well set-up  only little niggle is the dice seem a little central ?

That snail is great. Super detail in the shell and nice falloff of the light.

Must be nice to be bang up to date and on the home run

Wow, your on it quick this week, and what a great shot. Loving the details in the snails body. Great capture Brian.:)

The moon shot is lovely. So crisp, can't fault it.

Love the DOF on pair, really nice idea. The colours work well, as does the central composition.

The snail is a cracker... can't add anything to that.

I like both pair and shape.

The black background looks a tad patchy though.

Well done.

Good work on shape Brian (is it an sp?) magic roundabout reference there ;)

Seriously, it is super sharp, well lit with loads of detail in there. Perfect

Great snail shot Brian nice lighting, sharp its already been said

liking the snail Brian, black BG works a treat, really making the antennae things stand out. Good DOF and still pretty sharp even at f/36.

What's the thing it's sitting(?) on??

Hi Brian
Rock - cannot add to what has been said - an excellent image. I see that you now claim to love the moon. And before that, cows. Mmm do I see a theme

Pair - good shot of the dice but like some others I am not sure about the b/g - not that it is there, but that the angle that you have chosen and the fact that some of the words are covered niggles me a bit

Shape - super detail, great blak b/g and a very interesting choice for the base - almost ice like

not sure what you have the snail sitting on but it looks good, the detail in the shell and his skin are really sharp. Good that you got his antenna's sticking up too.

Thanks everyone, Lovely comments from you all this week

The Snail is on an upturned rectangular glass vase.

OK, so I had a week off work and decided to polish up my '52 catalogue. I started by looking for replacements for the ones I was least happy with and grabbed the chance to improve on a couple of others too, I'm particularly pleased to have something to suit the ones I really struggled with (Gluttony & kind). here they are then my six Reshoots (or 7 if you count my cheeky double... what? :)).

week 2 [Reshoot] - Season (Lambing season at Eyebrook)

week 2 [Reshoot] - Season.jpg by Brian of Bozeat, on Flickr

week 7 [Reshoot] - Gluttony

I got LOADS of street shots this week, I was after a good one of people shovelling chips down and was rewarded in Scarborough with an absolute cracker, this greedy fella hasn't finished eating his own chips yet and he's already got his eye on hers... DK please note I'm also claiming this as week 26's reshoot - Pair... and week 27 - Plenty! (not really )

week 23 [Reshoot] - Size (Had loads of options for this in the end I chose a tilt shift of some fishing boats) Magic! :)

Anyway, Thanks for looking it's been a long day and a long drive home and I'm up for a run with a friend in 6 hours time :gag: I wonder what tomorrows theme will be? Probably something to do with the seaside or gulls knowing my luck :'( Hope it's Cows!

Hi Brian,

Well done on so many reshoots.

Love the gluttony shot, they are spilling out....her chips that is lol

Letter - Simple but very effective. I like it a lot.

Angles - Definately lots of angles in this one. Well spotted, and I hope you didn't walk under his ladder.

Kind - Ahh so sweet, great story board. must learn how to do that one day.

and finally...

Size, when I first looked at this one I thought they were model boats.
Great depth of field, keeping the focus only on the boats. I might have cropped the fencing thingies in the foreground if it were my shot.

Well done again Brian.

Some good ones there Brian.

My favourite from these submissions is the letter box. The window balances with the letter box perfectly and the colour really makes it.

Also like the feeding frenzy :)

I think my least favourite is the landscape type image. I'm looking for a focal point in the middle but there isnt one to draw my eye. Took me a while to find the sheep hidden away in the shadows.

Boy you have been busy Brian !!!!

Some great shots there, I too love the letter image, great composition and the detail in the stonework is excellent,

Gluttony... a great capture, the expression on the guys face and the concentration oh hers - perfect street shot for me

Angle - Again very nice, the guy up the ladder looks tiny using that lens :D good colours and angle

Kind - Now that's a great set, says it in a story, colourful, effective and fun :)

Size - Love the detail and colour in that mate, a 'magic' touch for sure

Bloomin nora.....how many ????

In no particular order.....

I love the letter box shot...the window balances the image , great splash of red....& good detail in the brickwork as well

The lambs...like how you framed them with the tree ...a very calming spring scene

I saying nowt about gluttony/pair

Tilt shift....LOVE IT....they really do look like toys....

Jesus Brian not done things in half measures there

out of them all I like angle and size, size being particularly good they do look like toys
