weekly 52 in 2013: Brian of Bozeat : COMPLETE

Good catch there Brian. I don't have the steady hand required for that degree of sharpness so it's hats off to you.

Framing wise there's not a lot going on in the top & bottom of the image, but you've placed the bird nicely in the horizontal plane. This is exactly the sort of image I'd want to flip horizontally because looking left to right is more natural than right to left. That's just me being OCD though :)

Very Wild too!

Ian.

Nice shot. Lovely and sharp, and well composed. The patchy snow works really well. Maybe a lower angle would have been nice... but who's gonna lay down in that? :D

Hi, Wild, nice and sharp and vey well exposed. The colours are spot on for me. Tad closer, maybe. Cheers.

Thanks for your input

Hi ya
Beautiful shot if a Dunnock...love the natural surround comlete with a smattering of snow , fab detail in it's feathers & eye
I too would crop it....just below the top of that really annoying twig...then clone the remains of the twig out...you won't lose too much & will still show the natural surrounds

 Thanks Lynne.

Great capture Brian, well done.

Thanks

Veeeeery nice Dunnock Brian - you've done really well to get it as sharp as you have at 300mm, and only 1/250 sec.

I'm (surprisingly) not going to suggest cloning out any twigs, it's in it's natural habitat - and there are leaves and twigs there - none of them are obscuring the bird, so I'm fine with it.

I might have taken a bit off top and bottom - but not vital.

Thanks mate - Do you think I should have reconstructed the missing oak tree!

Thanks Ian, how do you know I havent already flipped it so that the bird welcomes you as your eyes come in from the left? eh? :D

Ive got to say absolutly love your gravity shot! Another good submission with your wild theme, nice and sharp and on theme!

You are very kind, thank you.

Fair comment - but I was hanging over a hedge at the time

Gravity: an eye catching shot that I think only you would really notice any major flaws and that is because you took it and maybe it is not exactly as you pictured in your mind - the only thing I noticed out of place was the dark area on the bottom right

Wild: Pretty little birds with a lovely song, think you might just have missed the sharpest focus on the bird but looks good nonetheless

Really nice photo Brian, really good series of photos so far :)

I've waited for ages to get around to my main plan for this weeks shot - but I was scuppered when the stately home I wanted as a foreground simply didn't work out, I went for plan B but My star trails didn't work either - too many clouds looked awful on the composite. All was not lost, I put the images together as a little time lapse and they looked quite good. They seemed better backwards! Have a look on my flickr if you are interested.

So this is my "banker" shot. I used the similar PP techniques as THIS one from a couple of weeks ago, which I actually prefer.

Week 5 - Space.jpg by Brian of Bozeat, on Flickr

I liked the feeling of the trees reaching up & into the clouds. I think it kind of ties the earth to space, What do you think?

I like it, think I wold have preferred to see whole trees at the sides, rather than cut off limbs but it has a lovely feel to it nonetheless

Thanks for the nice words, It's more of a "better than nothing" shot to remind me of my efforts than anything else. I had expected to crop it as you have suggested to show whole trees but I couldn't get that to work, I had a bit of a mixed bag yesterday!

EDIT: As Christines post suggested whole trees look better than half trees, this was in tune with my own thoughts so I triad again this morning with fresh eyes and finally saw this crop as being better, the narrower crop also made the sky seem higher which adds to the main theme of the image.

Thats a super image Brian. Love the sky behind the trees and the fade into the blackness and the stars.

Top image

Yes Brian, well done here, looks pretty darn good to me!

Really liking that one. Lovely tones, and the composition is spot on. Nothing bad to say about that at all.

That's working really well there Brian, the orange tones with the stars above is something you don't normally see.
Definately better cropped - less black foreground makes a big difference, and three whole trees works really well.

really liking the sky in this though the long exposure of the stars kind of spoils it for me would prefer them just to be dots

The colours are spectacular!

I agree about the cropped trees, but I'd have never noticed had someone else not mentioned it. It's a lovely shot to look at... really involving.

Lovely shot! Really like the colours and the trees reaching into the sky. Agree about the crop on the trees, but it's still a cracker of a shot and fits perfectly with the theme!

Limited time, I'm afraid, so quick comments...

Space, like it. Cracking colour and liking the detail. Might have benefited from more on the top to really emphasis the space.

Cheers.

Fabulous shot Brian. I really like the colours and contrast. I'm now away to your Flickr to see how you did it!

That's a cracking exposure Brian with some beautiful colour in there. Really gives a "heaven & earth" feel and potentially one for the wall.

You're keeping a good pace with this 52 too. Nice work!

Ian.

I like it Brian, it has a real ethereal feel to it

Really like this. Also like the one with the road in on flickr

Hi Brian

Gravity - well handled , lovely vibrant colours and feeling of motion. Like that high key stuff for this type of shot.

Wild - good capture, partic as it is in snow and grass. I think that atighter crop would help, altho i accept that as the theme is wild, ther is benefit in including the habitat.

Space - I really like that - it evokes the theme well. Good silhouette, colours in the sky and the tracery of the branches feeling up to the infinite space. Top job  Only (very minor) drawback are the slight star trails.

like the tree silhouettes.. the sky colours and star details are just wonderful..

Hi ay

Beautiful , simply beautiful....has a real Out of Africa feel to it ...get it framed mister

Hi Brian,
Just like to echo what everyone else has said about space, wonderful colour tones against the dark silhouette trees.

Nice colours in the background and I like your idea of the trees reaching into space although I think having them smaller and more space above them could have worked as well. I would have probably liked to see more movement in the stars or none at all.

Week 5 - Work : This image contains a little joke between my physicist son and myself, for the non-scientists (or engineers) amongst you Work = Force x Distance. For the non cyclists the bike is fixed to a resistance trainer (so goes nowhere). To the cyclists amongst you, I apologise for being in the small ring, I was on a cool down, honest! - Anyway It's here that I WORK out when the weather is like it is at the moment. I hope you can clearly see the work being done. PS. It's a bit grim and kind of surreal sometimes working out in the garage hence I went for the strange processing and grungy background, Christina [my Cyclocross bike] looks splendid for her close up, of course!

Hi Brain
Like the take on work (and looks like you are getting a good work out) like the sharpness around the bike frame and the motion feel around the shot like you are actually moving:thumbs:

Good job! I thought about trying something around force x distance but couldn't come up with anything interesting. Nice to see that someone else could!

yep - really good 'work' this week

Great use of the longer exposure to get the movement, as well as the three clear feet in shot. Liking the colours too, shadows on the background could be seen to detract, but I think they emphasise the tight space you have, maybe a bit further from the wall might have made a difference here.

But what I most like, and salute you for is the square crop, with the centre of the chain-ring smack dead centre in the middle, and everything going around that.

Christina?

Great image Brian, you've really captured the motion of the image well...

Hi Brian, it works for me. I like the action and motion, defined colours and plenty of detail.
