Hello:

need some advise, my lens won't come off of the body. The release button works and I can turn the lens but when it gets to the part to come off it won't! Anyone had this problem?

Thanks

How hard have you pulled? Which 50 is it - there are lots out there.

It's the Canon Ef Mark II, I've been advised not to force it! But I'm starting to get a bit worried!

Could the lens body have come loose from the mount so the lens body is turning but the mount is remaining in place?

Yes this has happened to me too! I accidentally dropped my 50mm f/1.8 II on the floor today. After obviously cursing my carelessness I checked it over and it seemed okay. I've just popped it onto my 450D to try it out and despite being a bit loud when focusing (louder than it was previously I think) it seemed okay. But now when I press the lens release button and twist to remove it, it jams about half way through the twist. Has anyone else experienced this? Know how to get it off? Were you successful OP?

Thanks for your help

I read a thread about this on flickr (try doing a search) there were a few people reporting the same problem.

sound like it could be expensive to sort this out

any more than £70 and I'd recommend to just smash it off (while trying not to harm the body) as you can get a new 50mm f1.8 for around £70 ;)

i agree.

can you turn it to remount it till it clicks into place? if you can it sounds like the mount has come loose.

The problem with this thesis is that if the mount is damaged you might have to pay to have it repaired too

that's the only problem I had forseen is if the mount is damaged then it would just be a mess, maybe try and get a repair shop to diagnose whether it's the mount or the lens perhaps? :)
