Hi,

wondering if anyone can advise...

Hat touching, Steam Engine ELR, Ramsbottom by KatiaUK, on Flickr

In the middle is a brighter section - sometimes tinted blue. Any ideas on how to stop it? Taken with a 50mm f1.4d @ f8. Been shooting with this lens a bit more and had this happen on a few pics.. is it just that I need to put the rubber hood on?

I see what you mean bit sorry to say mate that I cannot be of assistance as I have no idea on the cause though maybe you would get more response in the talk sections rather than critique section

No filters and no hood

Tokina's lens flare is very nice - this, not so much... :/

Had the same on this (the first two pics on the left - middle is brighter.
Doesn't seem to be all the time tho, so guessing only certain angles to the sun/muted sun (clouds in the way) ?

It looks like flare from shooting right into the light. Even a lens hood won't help much in this situation as it only helps shield light coming from the sides or above. You could probably have done with a bit more exposure for the foreground which would only have made the flare brighter anyway.

If you shoot into the light you'll inevitably get flare sometimes and it can be quite acceptable - even attractive, but it's a bit of a lottery, although some lenses are more susceptible to flare than others.
