Am thinking of getting a 5D MK2 probably as a second body to use alongside my 50D for landscape and low light work. Have been tempted by the 7D also but think that given my current lenses and mix of photography I do that having the full frame alongside the 50D is the best of both worlds.

Will probably sell the Canon 10-22 ef-s and replace with a 17-40 f4 so I have good glass for the 5D at the wider end and the 120-400 will still work well on the 50D.

Does this make sense to others as I feel I have gone over and over this decision, and really just want to go and purchase this weekend.

I moved from 40D to 5D2 and replaced my 10-22 with Sigma's 12-24 which works on crop and full-frame.

edit: maybe I misunderstood the question :-) If it's 50D+5D2 vs 50D+7D, definitely pick the former because the two complement eachother.

Get the 5D II.

The 7d is a step backwards if you ask me, as was the 50d from the 40d. Though that's just opinion..

don't look at the siggy the L is perfect ;)

the 7d is an excellent sports/wildlife camera but not great at all at anything else

the 5dII is just great, the AF is no worse than a 50d (no better either though :() and the IQ will blow you away. Made my 50d images see flat and tacky in comparison.

Given that I have had no real issues with the AF on the 50D think my mind is now made up, 5D MK2 has my name on it. The high noise was my issue with the 50D and the 5D will sort that plus will keep 50D for any sports/wildlife when I want the extra reach that the crop sensor gives.

I think I will also stick with my original lens choice of 17-40mm

I think you'd probably end up using the 5D MkII more and relegating "second body" status to the 50D. Good choice with the 17-40! I'm craving one but need to save the money for an iMac!

Good choice! I keep a 70-200 f2.8L IS on my 50D and a 24-70 f2.8 L on my 5D2.
The 5D2 excels in image quality. The 50D is good, but the 5D2 is in another league both in terms of detail/sharpness AND low light capabilities. With the 50D I tend to max out at ISO 800, but with the 5D2 I don't really worry - even 6400 is usable.
