My 50D shutter button is getting stiff. Its fine for the first stage but the 2nd stage is very stiff.

Any idea of a likely cost for a shutter button replacement? I'm guessing 20D-30D-40D will be similar price. The camera is 5 months old but is a Hong Kong import from Digital Rev and it may be more cost effective and quicker just to pay someone to get it done.

Will call Colchester Cameras and Lehmanns tomorrow but I thought I'd ask the question anyway.

Andrew,

Not sure how confident you are taking the body to bits but it's more than likely that the insulating membrane has become dislodged or twisted slightly. It should be possible to realign it if you're happy to get in and give it a prod.

I thought Digital Rev had warranty cover for UK customers.

I'd at least get a no from Canon before taking the back off as that'll definitely void your waranty

Absolutely, and it'll be covered for the rest of the warranty period if they repair it!!

that sounds fair to be honest - try fixation and places like that, as stated it might be some thing dislodged rather than a new part needed.

good on ya! hope its not an inherent(sp) fault
