Hi,

Just got home with my new 50D and having a play with it...

Took a few photos and nearly **** myself at how loud the thing is... compared to my 450D it sounds like a machine gun... is the shutter meant to be louder?!

probably. The 450D sounds quite cheap compared to the more expensive bodies.

I've heard a Nikon D300 going off and it's like a thump... lol
 
you can reduce it, from the settings, only slightly though.
 
Lol, me and a guy I work with almost had that same argument. He was convinced that it was a recorded sound, and I was like 'NOT ON SLRS LOL'

Yes.. thats what I thought.

I remember having a Fuji bridge camera (s7000) in 2005 it had the option of having a pretend shutter sound to turn on and off! LOL :D

I think the 50d shutter sounds gorgeous. :love:
 
It sounds awesome but... my god when it went off... its got to be three times as loud then the 450D... love it!!

Gonna take me a while to get used to this monster!

5D's have this sound. Chou-chou.

The 1Ds sounds sleek and mechanical. Pa-chook.

The 1D firing, especially at high-speeds, is phenomenal. About the same volume as the 1Ds but sounds snappier. Cha-ak, cha-k-k-k. ch-a-k-k!!!!!

The silent shutter on the cameras is really useful- it delays the cocking of the shutter and really does reduce noise, don't know if the 50D has it?

Nooooooooo! :D thats just in Live View!
Live view is almost like mirror lockup where there is hardly a sound.

For normal everyday shooting you can't make the mechanical noise of the shutter differ. :S

isn't it the same shutter in the 30D? Mine doesn't sound all that loud...

30D and 40D sound very different. 50D would be closer to 40D I would think.

If you want SILENT you want LEICA :lol:
 
I love the loud sound of my 40D although there are times where I wished it was quieter.
i.e. Trying to take a photo of this guy sitting on the floor in the weirdest position I have seen whilst using his Macbook Pro in the Royal Festival Hall. Shutter was so loud that I was spotted. Such a disgruntled look he gave!
 
My Sony A700 shutter sounds so slick except when I try to take a photo of a marbled white butterfly. Three times out of four I can only take an in-flight shot because it's off when it hears it. I also have an A100. The sound is "calllunkkk", but the marbled white thinks it's cool and just sits there, so that's the camera I use for those guys. :)
