50D Owners Thread - Anything 50D related

Hello all, I would like to ask for your support. As you will know the 50d supports micro adjustment. A very clever chap has written software to make micro adjustment much less subjective and much easier to do. However, he does not have 50d support today. It would be of use to all of us for him to provide it.

Can you request 50d support at the following link?

Thanks
Amir

Sorry, It was probably a mistake of mine to suggest making direct contact like that. Far better to raise a request and gather votes/support on the FoCal Forum....

http://www.reikan.co.uk/focal/forum/index.php

I'm sure he'll appreciate the interest being gathered in a single thread there than being inundated with multiple individual contacts, each requiring a personal response.

Wow - that sounds amazing!!! Does Magic Lantern impact the act of taking photo's in any way?

No worries, just had a reply anyway.

Hi Mike

Definitely! The algorithm (image analysis and result generation) is camera agnostic, but I'm focussing on the 5Dmk2 and 7D for the moment as I have those available.

As soon as the public release is available (planned for 2nd Jan), I will be testing with a 50D, and hope to have a fully qualified version available by mid January.

Not sure about the top screen but Giottos for the rear LCD are good and quite robust.

Brilliant. I used this exact combination. 50d and70-200 when they we on a small pitch, 100-400 or full pitch, then I used the 400d with a 24-105 for touch line work. I've used my 50d in torrential weather and all through winter at rugby. You'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the welcome, Byker28i I am using a sigma 170-500 at the moment, would love some L glass but will have to save some more Penny's. I am looking at the canon 18 -135 lens for the touch line work, what are your thoughts on this lens. I will be going down the secondhand route, like I have with the rest of my kit. Cheers Ian.

Hi. Just bought a 2nd hand 50d with Magic lantern already installed on cf card. I noticed that there was an update for the camera's firmware, so i installed 1.0.9 and followed instructions on the camera to update it.

from that moment on, the menu screen stopped working! but noticed that the top screen was still giving me info on shutter speed etc. so I switched off the camera and turned it back on and it doesn't power up at all!!!!

Can anyone advise me on how to get my camera back to normal? The eos utility disc didn't come with the camer!
Thanks Ray

Welcome to TP! Have you tried pressing the "info" button under the screen? This cycles through the screen modes, one of which turns it off. It may be that the default firmware setting on 1.0.9 is to off (though I'd find this odd). If this doesn't work I suspect that the magic lantern has caused issues with the new firmware update. In which case you could revert back to an older firmware.

Thanks Jim for the advise. it was a very depressing day yesterday to have had the camera i've wanted for 4 years and then not have it, if you know what i mean.

Well I have just been trying what you advised me to do but to no success! The camera wasn't powering up at all. So I've taken the cf card out and changed the single battery to a double with the battery grip and hey presto!!!!!! It's asking me to set the date and time on the screen :)

The only thing is; I turned the camera off to insert the cf card and again the camera would not switch on!!! I'm guessing that the Magic lantern isn't liking the 1.0.9 firmware update!!!

So I'll have to take that off before I try again.

Thanks jim for your help.

That behaviour sounds much like the symptoms of a dead battery. Have you tried charging it? You said you'd changed batteries, but not CHARGED it/them.

well since getting mine i've put the giotto screen protector on, got the genuine BG E2N grip on it and the interesting thing i thought i would share is this:
I bought a wireless shutter release from the bay of fleas as the genuine one comes up rarely second hand and brand new is pricey. I paid £11.95 posted from hong kong , i have just found this review of it so thought i would share it with you all just in case it is of any interest.

Sorry to be a pain but can't find answer in manual : how do you set the camera for multiple burst shots? Thanks

Thanks!
Say you are on fast burst speed and then turn camera off, when you switch on again will the settings default automatically to single shot?

Ok.Thanks.I've just been messing about and seem to have got it.I assume "single" burst means one shot only.

Cheers,Andy.I DID notice a couple of other signs which I didn't understand.Must have been your 2 and 10 second delays.Sorry about my queries but been wanting to get this sorted for ages.I'm sure there's loads of other stuff.
