in case ive missed some important settings, how are you guys finding this camera in regards to noie in finished pictures? I did a shoot recently, shot raw, 200iso, but everything i shot i needed to run through noiseware to make them acceptable to me. Anyone got any thoughts/tips/examples?

As with the 50D, you need to disable Auto Lighting Optimiser and Highlight Tone Priority if you shoot RAW. They can be useful for jpeg shooting but cause increased noise with RAW images.

CT posted this in the 7D tips section mentioning noise on RAW files on the 50D

Have you checked the highlight tone priority setting ( D+) ?
I did mention it to you on msn the other day :suspect:

I have the same issue the noise is terrible on this camera :( with the D300 i hardy used noise reduction software - its virtually every image know.

Sorry Matty I would like to help but I am in the habit at the moment of changing my settings on a regular basis:shrug: Imo the 50D works good around the 400 - 1200 I cant say I suffer with enough to worry about anyway, depends what crop you are doing I suppose. And whilst here my opinion is that people are just too strung up with noise, for christ sakes why does everybody go on about doing 100% crops are people getting enlargements done the size of the living room carpet or what! :D Not having a pop at you M8 but I wish people would just get on and enjoy taking photographs even if they turn out blurred :gag: Like I have said in the past if you look close enough at anything in this world you will find a flaw, nothing is perfect :( Well execpt Moi!!

Ps: Reminds me of the day when we used to play Quake Arena on a 20 player Lan, whilst we were running around fragging everything is site you would get the odd one stopping to notice that a pixal wasnt looking quite right :lol::lol::lol:

Been waiting for someone to say that, everyone goes on about using this & that & this is better then That but in all honesty its all down to what your happy with as there are pro's out there using canon & nikon etc....

This boils down to the PC vs Mac arguement lol.

Oh and Quake was a legendary game :P although still can't beat Doom over a serial network [does that show my age?]
