Yes
Can't choose between a 50D and 550D.

I prefer the 50D for the larger size (more comfortable to hold), 6fps, better autofocus, and micro focus adjust - all things that are important to me.

But then the 550D has video, newer sensor, better screen and uses SD cards which I prefer.

And if I got the 50D, a 60D would come out the next day

I tested both today in a shop with the same lens, and have been comparing the pics for ISO performance... There's nothing in it between them!

Help :bonk:

50d:D

i was deciding the same thing, got a 50d and never looked back ;)

plus i think the 550d feels like a toy in the hand compared..

if the ISO performance is the same the newer sensor is a negligible benefit of the 550D which leaves you with the advantages of video, better screen and SD cards. Are they worth the sacrifice of comfort, fps and focus speed and micro adjust? Sounds like 50D is the obvious choice. I don't know about Canon release schedule but if a new release is as imminent as people seem to suggest then I'd hold off a month or two to see what the new camera has to offer and if it's not worth the price then you can get a 50D at a knock-down price or one of many S/H bodies sure to hit the market.

No brainer go for the 50D, more solid in every sense.

If you want video go buy a video camera, you'd probably never use it on the 550 anyway.

I haven't on the 5d2.

If you can wait, wait. If not it's up to you to decide whether video is important or not as that is the only real benefit to the 550D.

Shouldn't your decision really be influenced by what you plan to shoot?

Don't think you've said what that is?

I went for the 550D love it, its a lot lighter and newer tech than the 50D and does have the feel of a toy about it but if you dont mind that it works just great. I didnt want to carry a camcorder as well as a camera.

It does feel a bit small in the hand but I just added a battery grip this weekend and feels great.

I same in a quandary, wether to get a 50D or 7D, I have heard that Canon are going to release a 60D dont know how true it is though, maybe that will have video and more

Specs as per rumour Clicky
- 18mp
- ISO 6400 Max
- 9AF Points
- Articulating LCD
- New Menu System
- Movie mode like the 7D

I went for the 550d as the 50d would be too heavy for me. The 550d is like having a 450d but with more and better 'stuff' on it! Nice and light with excellent everything :D

It all depends on your needs and probably only you can answer that.
The 50D has much more accessible functions via the big wheel, joystick, extra buttons. I'll take my 50D out in the rain, but not the 400D.

If you need video then it's got to be one of the newer cameras.

What lenses do you have? Personally I find my 400d a little small with the bigger lenses, but it's perfect for my 12 year old son to use.

Are SD cards a big advantage and I wouldn't worry about a newer body coming out soon. That's always going to happen within about 18 months no matter what camera you buy.

The 50D will be replaced this year (so the gossips states) so you can wait or buy now. I think the question is do you really want video?

If not then I would go for the 50D.
