50D is announced

If the rumour is true about the 50D then the spec listed her still falls short of the D300, which is an amazing camera. A friend of mine has the D300 and the results are great. In low light it is much better than my 400D. Though my 400D is not any ware near the D300's league is really is a great DSLR !

I know you've said, but you cannot EVER compare the 400d with the d300.

it's like comparing a 40d to a d40.

It's interesting, but I'll believe it when I see it. Increasing the pixel count to 15 million pixels, from the 10 million currently on offer with the 40D sounds like a huge leap to me. It makes sense on one level as it would make the 50D an awesome camera to maximise the reach of long lenses, assuming that there's an increase in 1:1 file size proportionate to that pixel increase, and that the increased pixel count doesn't bring unwanted noise issues with it. It would certainly appeal to me, but I'll wait and see. ;)

I suspect that, as a consumer body, the 15Mp may well be outstripping the resolving power of many of the consumer lenses out there....at least beyond the centre of the image. The kit lens delivered with a 15Mp crop sensored body will have to be disproportionately expensive I fear.

15mp seems a bit to much to me IMHO - I dont mind a giant leap aslong as it does not come at a price :)

Indeed - bad news for newbies without glass I would think.

Here's a quick look at what it would mean- slanted towards long lens work - no surprises there! :D

This first image is an 800 pixel 1:1 (full frame) crop from the 40D

This next image is the same 40D full frame image interpolated up to 4752 X 3168 pixels, (the reported file size of the 50D)and then again cropped to 800 pixels at 1:1 Obviously this simulation takes no account of the increased pixel density of the 50D, which should leave a much higher quality cropped image

Finally, the 40D image superimposed over the 50D image with the 40D image in mono for clarity.

A very significant difference in reach indeed if you're into long lenses and wildlife.

It's interesting, and I remain sceptical but hopeful. ..... and a Digic 1V processor already?? :suspect:

makes me want to sell my 40D and hold my breath and wait and see...

aye you'll DEFINITELY take better pictures with a 50D.

actually the twist is... wait and see.... what Nikon comes up with and jump ship:lol:!
