Just found it on 500px, only had 4 members, 5 now I've joined but no photos or comments.
Just a heads up if you are interested, after all we have a TP flickr group.

Does anyone know if you have to sell your work that is on 500px? I've the question of them and they never respond which is frustrating. I know some prefer 500px over Flickr and some do both.
No, no need to sell, I post on flickr and 500px, I like them both, possibly prefer 500px a bit more and generally (although not absolutely) the quality of the images is better, mind you most folk post on both anyway.

^^^ I would agree with that, I find you tend to get more 'cat' pictures on flickr as people often use it for cloud storage of photo's as well as its photography community, whereas I find overall 500px features more 'quality' image work - albeit a little overdone with the processing/magenta at times!

I tend to use both, using flickr to post more varied stuff and test the water a little and 500px to post what I consider my "style".

Have just started to play about with Viewbug too, early days but has a nice feel and the contests/challenges seem pretty good.

Hard to join a Group you know nothing about, so thanks for highlighting it. A link would be nice though.

I forgot that 500px had the Groups option because I think I found it very poorly designed when they introduced it.

There was a thread a few years ago with people on here sharing their 500px profiles. There were quite few as you would expect. :)

I think the quality level is starting to go down a bit at 500px over the last few months, or at least the 'Popular' pics are, as it starts to follow the Flickr route of images rating high dependant on how large your social network is, rather than the quality of the image, imho. I find myself going through the Popular pics in the categories I'm interested in and clicking less that I like. :( I suppose it was inevitable as it became more popular.

I'm getting more and more disillusioned with 500px as they seem to change the apparent ethos of the site towards a money making venture. Again, seemingly inevitable, as it all has to be paid for some way. :(

Never heard of that, I will give it a look. :)

I was reading a blog about "how to get on the popular page" of 500px and basically came down to 2 things; either 1 - photograph a hot girl or 2 - shoot a landscape and push the magenta slider. I thought it was being a bit tongue in cheek, but actually when you scroll down the popular page you kind of see how true that is!

Viewbug kind of looks like 500px in terms of layout, so it presents your photos well. As a community you can like and award photographs you like with specific awards for composition etc. I've not really figured out how to increase views yet, but after 2 days I have seen some okay figures just by uploading and doing nothing else. The photo contests and challenges have some decent prizes available, but many are locked to paying members it seems, but some of the free ones are still good and can give you impetus to go out and shoot something for a particular contest/challenge, so will be good for people who are wanting new creative direction.

The one big issue I have found is that it frequently displays some photo's randomly as [?], which kind of defeats the point of a photo site - not sure if that's just for me or a glitch in the system though.

Me too.

I'll have a look at joining the 500px group tonight, if I remember

I'm in now

I've not done anything with 500px for a few years - my only shots there are from a compact. Maybe it's time to revive the account.

*edit* - just seen some of my work from a couple of years ago is up there too. Joined the group now.

Also joined the group. I do have my own account but rarely use it, i think there's about 4 photos in it.
I mainly use 500px for inspiration.

I've been on 500PX for some time, I've just joined the TP one.

I've just joined Viewbug too, seems OK, I've put up 12 photos in the last few days and had a reasonable number of votes and already have about 30 followers, although I've not found anyone I want to follow back yet lol but then I've not really spent anytime looking at others pics.

Yeah it seems popularity is everything (like most of these types of sites), so many folk with very mediocre photos that get 100's of likes just because they have lots of followers and are always liking everything to promote themselves. I've seen some really good stuff from not so popular folk that just have a handful of likes, shame.
And yes over saturation is the word here too, some of the photos are just just ridiculous but they stand out and folk vote for them.
Apparently "Bots" are rife on 500px too, folk use them to give false "likes" and boost their score.

^^^ I'm with you there - just this morning I saw a pic from somebody I follow which was basically a phone snap of a lamp post, an industrial chimney and some old industrial works buildings - no real composition or subject or interesting processing, my daughter could have gotten the same exact image if i'd given her my phone and she had randomly snapped away - it had over 40 likes, 340 views and comments saying things like "great composition" and "superb image, keep it up"!!!

I can only image what Scott Kelly would have said about it if it had been sent in to the blind critiques show on The Grid!

I'm hoping the comments were ironic!

The worst thing is for the kind of postings you mention are the posters really start to believe they are good and just continue pumping out the same crap not realizing most of the likes, votes and comments are just to get them to do the same to the other person.

I have fun on flickr now, on Explore there always seems to be photos of buses, just crap photos posted on bus spotter sites so I usually fav the pic and tell them what a great photo it is and how it deserves to be explorered, all very tongue in cheek but I can't resist.

Not sure I quite like Viewbug's T&Cs.

However, by submitting the User Submissions to Viewbug, you hereby affirm, represent and warrant that you have the power and authority to, and do, grant to Viewbug an irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to copy, store, display content to other users and visitors to the Viewbug Website, and to use in any way the entire contents of the User Submission and all portions and components thereof. This license grant incudes, but is not limited to, the right of Viewbug to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display all or any portion or component of the entire contents of the User Submission, including, but not limited to, for the purposes of providing and promoting the specific Viewbug Website or file to which such Content was submitted or made available.

It reads to me like they get a license from you to distribute your images in any way they want when you upload.
