I'm sure this will have been done before (i did a search but didn't find anything that matched this thread) but here goes:

Which do you use or prefer to use and why? Or do you use another and if so, why?

I've been using Flickr for a few years and find it OK but not great, although I couldn't tell you why I'm not a massive fan of it. I've looked at 500px and all the shots seem to be of a very high quality and i'm not sure my shots will belong there.

What are your thoughts on these image sharing websites?

It's up to you. I prefer 500px, looks better and feels much more pro to me.
Nothing wrong with having both

500px. As mention, by Sebastian, looks more professional and I personally believe that the images being displayed are of a much higher quality.

I use Flickr purely for hosting my photos to display on a few UE forums, I don't really engage in the groups side of Flickr.

I have tried 500px twice now, and both times I have deleted my account as I have found myself constantly checking / worrying about how many people have looked at my photographs. 500px struck me as somewhere back scratching gets you a long way, and is also a willy waving / ego boosting website IMO

Neither, Google+

I see them both as completey different things.
500px is a showcase and portfolio
Flickr is a dumping ground for photos to share on forums/ friends etc.

I put all sorts on flickr, snapshots or stuff to send to friends, sales pictures for ebay etc.
My 500px only has my best work. TBH, Ill probably let my 500px account expire, as I have my own website now, and I never get any views on 500px, so its all a bit pointless.

As I dont go in for the clique of liking and commenting on every photo, or whoring links on twitter and facebook every second, I dont get many views in return. TBH I could care less if someone likes my photos or not..

I find that 500px has quite a limited display resolution compared with flickr, google+ and facebook.

I was also a bit put off by people commenting on my pics on 500px mainly to get me to view or comment on their photos.

I've a pro account on Flickr, don't mind paying $24 per year for unlimited uploads. It's like another back up if you up full res [though I don't always] - whereas with 500px I'll just casually use their free account service.

Kind of off topic, but I clicked on your timechamber link nick, I must say that is the best, well laid out and comprehensive website I have visited, and spent time on, in a long while. A wealth of information and resources on an important part of our history. And great to see 2 brothers getting along and engaging in a passion together.

Back on topic, I use Flickr - again, as a general photo hosting platform and I do participate in the community aspect by using the groups. I went on 500px for a while but felt that my photos were not up to the standard of work on there.

I use both. I have Flickr pro account and a free 500px account. I get more involved in my Flickr account and post more on there only selecting my better pictures for 500px.
To be honest both are for whoring your pictures and you get more views if you post to groups and comment on others.

I do find that the pictures on 500px are of a higher standard, but I think a lot is mainly down to post processing as there seems to be a lot more done and a lot of the picture have a sort of high colour hdr ish look. The only place with similar picture I've found is 1x not sure if this is the same people that run 500px but I found it before 500px.

Cheers! I always like to have some positive feedback :)
