hi guys, decided not to go with mirror lens but have bought a sigma 500mm tele f/7.2, i know its not the best lens in the world but i got it at a good price so could not turn it down. we have a lot of woods around my area and i thought it might make a cheap entry into wildlife photos, i am also considering a 2x converter or would this downgrade the quality too much?, any info is appreciated, thanks. Neil

That's probably a better buy than the mirror lens, - you should get better image quality. It's difficult to tell how much you'll downgrade the image by using a 2X converter until you actually try it, but a bigger issue is that your effective maximum aperture is reduced by a whole 2 stops, so it's the old problem, a constant struggle for enough light, and at f7.2 you're a bit restricted to start with.

500mm is a good focal length for wildlife, but you'll be surprised how close you still need to get to your subjects to get good quality images with fine detail.

Good luck with it... I look forward to seeing some shots.

cool, thanks CT, will post some shots as sonn as i receive it!, cant wait. Neil
