Is it worth upgrading my 500D for a 50D? I have been using it for about a year now and do like how the semi-pro body feels etc. Would i notice a difference using the 50D in my pictures? I am right in saying they both have the same sensor?

The 50D has a more rugged semi-pro body with faster continuous shooting and higher maximum shutter speed. It also has AF micro adjustment. Would it take better pictures, probably not, but it *might* get shots that the cheaper model might miss if you shoot birds in flight or sports. As you surmise, it looks like the sensor is similar if not identical. If it was down to me, if you don't intend to shoot moving targets, I'd stick with what you've got, otherwise save up for the 7D.
Only moving targets are the nieces and thier dog!
So, i might be better off keeping the 500D for now until my needs change i guess? It does take stunning shots, with some help from me! The 50D does feel like a 'real' camera though!
