500D Focus Noise

Hello I'm sorry if this is a repost but I've had a look and can't find anything to help. I received my first DSLR this week and have been testing out various settings, but in Video mode when I focus (kit 18-55 lens) the lens is really noisy and this noise plays back in the video footage. Just wondered if anyone else got this and what did you do to get around it apart from filming without sound?

That is normal. Way around it is to use manual focus.

I had similar problems with noise pickup from the IS system on my Sigma 150-500, I think it;'s time for a seperate mic.

agree with Ken. external microphone is a must if you want to do some filming and lens noises are bothering you.

External mic is what you need. I can even hear the shuffling of the manual focus ring on the internal mic.

Great, thank you everyone. I just got a little worried and thought it was just my camera being noisy, any recommendations on external microphones?
