500D announced. ***Official Thread ***

I will wait to see if there are some reviews on the 500D before I move from my 400D. There is of course the rumered 60D which should have extra AF points and full movie mode. I think the movie mode on this 500D is only 20fps, which is a little to slow to be of uch use really.
I totally agree that Canon pricing is insane, and again rip of Britain still exsits, USA $800, UK £850 ! ! !

Something intresting ive just found out about the 500D, is that it uses a diffrent sensor from the 50D, basically the 50D sensor uses gapless tech wereas the 500D doesn't.

Some from this, i can asume the image quality & niose will be worst than the 50D at high
ISO.

I was planning on buying my girlfreind this camera for her Birthday in a couple of months as an upgrade to her beloved 350D she used for years, but cramming 15mp into a crop sensor that not using glapless tech i think i pass and buy the cheaper 450D instead.

Nice find, very nice.
Not sure on the 3.4 FPS though :( BUT HD MOVIES :P

Threads merged (that button is getting a lot of use today :( )

Do you think Canon will follow this by announcing a 60D in the next cpl months? That is what I am waiting for. Won't be in a position to upgrade til the end of the year, and would love to see some of the rumours flying about this become solid facts.
If you examine Canon's historical releasing schedule you'll see that they've been fairly consistent - an xxD model comes out with X megapixels, then 6 months later an xxxD model follows it with the same resolution. They are sold alongside each other for another 12 months before a new xxD model comes out with a higher pixel count. Then 6 months later...

This is illustrated fairly well in this timeline. The 500D is a bit ahead of the usual release schedule, but even if they were moving to a 12-month cycle... well, the 50D was announced on 26 August 2008, released on 6 October 2008.

Best not to get hung up on the number of pixels, concentrate on getting the photo you want. Current models are quite adequate for that. ;)
