4x5 developing problems

Ben, it would be helpful to know what kit you used for developing.
 
Sorry, I've never seen one of theses film holders, far less used one. The fact that the sheet was white on both edges might suggest that the chems aren't getting in to where the sides are gripped, but hopefully someons will be along shortly with a better answer.
 
Surely, if it's not been developed, it would be black, not white?

The white rays top left might be the sun, or could be fogging.

I'd go with light leaks. Do those holders (which I've also never seen before) just drop in the tank, and did you put in the central column to prevent light leaks?

Yes it just drops into my Paterson 3 reel holder. If it’s a light leak then it’ll be when I moved the film between the box, film holder and the developing holder. I’ve developed a couple of sheets using that holder already and they didn’t have the fogging which is why I thought chemicals.
What I don’t understand is if it is light leak then why would it be along the long sides of the film and not the short side? I would have thought ever all 4 or the short side as that’s the end that’s at the opening of the film holders. I have another of the same scene though so we’ll see when I develop that one

I'm pretty sure those raya are fogging tbh.

I did initially think that perhaps that when the darkslide has been replaced into the film holder that the springed section of the back ( the bit that holds the holder in place had been accidently pulled open a fraction thus allowing the holder to fall away fr;m its seating in the rear standard and allowing light to enter from above but having thought more about it and realising that the top of the image where the rays of light are would have been ( I think) will have entered from near the bottom edge of the camera ( ie the "flap" end of the film holder) which of course is the more secure end of the springed back and therefore much more difficult to dislodge accidently.

I'm actually sat here with a camera and holder playing around with different possible scenarios but struggling to come up with a cause.

I will suggest however to take a close look at the flap ( open end that you insert film) on the film holder to see if there are signs of the taped hinge coming adrift near the outer edges of the holder as that could possibly allow light to travel directly upwards and show pretty much straight lines of fogging.

The only other 'in camera' issue I can come up with is ifyou have had the rear standard/, film back of the camera apart and not put it back together correctly although I would expect to see focusing issues if that were the case.

There are as you knozw many areas that can go wrong from loading the holders through to developing so you're not forced to resolve this.

What are the other frames coming out like?
