Yes
Just ordered a 300mm f/4L IS :)

I very nearly plumped for the Sigma 300mm f/2.8 but weight won out over low light usage and as it's really just a purchase for me rather than work so it was a little hard to justify the cost.

Should be here tomorrow so it's bound to be raining

using the 300 f4 made me change from sigma 120-300 to a 300 prime. Once i had tasted the canon prime that was it :) I love my 300 2.8 but on a nice day would like the ease of the f4.. easy to hand hold as its smaller and lighter than my 70-200 :)

Yep, that was pretty much my thinking. Big glass is fine on a tripod/monopod but I'll be more walkabout so weight and handholdability are key.

Shame you missed my used one in the classified. Could have saved yourself a few quid!

I did see it but I was offered a good deal on a new one and figured it was worth it when I added the cost of getting a 2nd hand one serviced in 6-12mths time.

Oh, I forgot to mention the other thing that made the f/4 attractive is the min focus which is very useful for dragonflies, etc ;)

Hmm I used to have the 500D and the quality was excellent. I might have to have a look at getting another...

I sold my 300/4 when a 300/2.8 was on the horizon but then regretted the decision even before I'd left the post office.....the MFD is more than useful. End result was having to replace it within a month.
300 and 400 are the two primes where having different versions can be justified.

Woken by the postman at 7:30 :)

Will post some samples with 100% crops a bit later...

I have the Nikon version of the 300 F4, as Kipax says, it is really light, good IQ and the MFD is superb. I`m sure the Canon equivalant is as good. Enjoy it......

Of course, as always when I get a new lens the weather is gloomy but Sunday is looking good so I'll pop along to the Taunton 10k and take a few shots, in the meantime I quick trip to the local pond and the Canada Geese have arrived so smile please ;)

Exported from LR with the default settings, a low noise pass in Noiseware (shot is ISO1250), resize to 800px and a gentle sharpen 1px, 50% in FocusMagic.

and a 100% crop from the LR exported file, no edits.

Very impressed so far

Nice shots...

Strange, I had a dream about this lens last night - a bit worrying

There's nothing much to worry about with that one Andy

Im going to be super stupid here, but how do you do a 100% crop what size does it have to be to be 100% crop

:amstupid:
