Yes
so my contract runs out in august thank god lol
any way im looking to renew but with any one but vodafone nightmare signal
one thing im going to be looking at is 4G for streaming movies etc

def looking for another iphone so presume from what i can tell only EE or 3 Mobile

can you give me any input to what 4G is like ???

IMHO no its not worth it, HSPDA is more than quick enough for streaming. 4G coverage is more expensive and still has usage caps, so all you'll do is use your allowance quicker!

Certainly not much coverage either ATM.

I stream iplayer in HD via threes 3G service (tethered laptop)

It will be a few years till 4g is worth it.

Especially inside building from what I have heard. Save you money and go for normal 3g or wait till O2 and others get 4G to see what they offer.

02 and vodafone will never be on 4G on the iphone as the iphone is on a diffrent bandwidth cant remember the exact ghz but it something stupid like 600ghz for EE and 1200 GHZ for vodafone and 02
iphone is 600 ghz onlyso not compatible

I would stick to 3G if 4g contracts are more expensive. I was in EE shop and the guy was telling me my home area was well covered. I told him I know I have 85mb broadband. I want EE to have coverage away from my home :-). They aren't that widespread yet

Just to clarify:
The version of the iphone5 currently being sold here will not be compatible with 4G from other carriers.
However, other versions do support the correct frequency range. I suspect that when the other carriers get 4G other versions will be released here that are compatible.

The danger will come when buying secondhand iphone5 handsets and hoping to use it on different networks (e.g. buying a EE handset and trying to use it on vodafone 4G) - buyer beware!

that is correct only 2 networks able to use iphone 5 on 4g due to the mhz there on sorry if i did not explain the correctly lol

im in two minds on which contract to go for now

EE seems a good option
02 was a go untill all the recent problems seems to be happening too regular
vodafone is a no no
3 network well i tried dealing with the indian call centre's and t say i was frustrated was a understatement , unlimited internet tempts me
so again EE seems a good option

You've got until August, why worry about it now when it's 8 months away? In between now and then your likely to see iPhone 5S or 6, and the galaxy S4 which should allow for better choice of networks. It's still early days for 4G, and until they get the network up and running all over the country, it's not something I would be busting a gut to be a part of it just yet.

I always wait till last minute and get the wrong contract so this time I'm planning early

You managed to get all the frequencies wrong ;)

Currently EE are running their 4G on 1800 mhz by using spare bandwidth after their merge.

Latrr this year OFCOM will run the auction for the proper launch of 4G which all the networks will participate in. The auction will sell off an allocation in the 2600 mhz band and in the 800mhz band.

The most desirable chunk is the 800mhz allocation.

The iphone 5 does not have either frquency built in, it only has 850, 1800 and 2100 mhz.

I wouldn't worry though, by the time the full 4G roll out happens there will be an iPhone 5S available.

thats what i meant :p i knew the bandwidth was only avvailable or certain networks

i should hopefully be in time for the iphone 5S aswell but going to wait and see

I wouldn't hold my breath for that. I'm not sure on the current plan for EE, but I'd be doing more research into the roll out plan, and whether where you live is going to be upgraded.

Our area was done last year but I won't upgrade to 4g until I know it would be worth it

Just seen you've been upgraded, lucky git :) in the long run 4G will be worth it, but like 3G it will take time for the country to be fully covered. Being an early adopter can be risky, get an iPhone 5 and you'll be locked into EE, or wait until the 5S/6 is released and hope they improve the frequency support.

4G is only really going to become worth it after the auction and the allocation of the "proper" bandwidth, especially the 800 MHz bit (the lower frequency is ideal for carrying the signal over long distances).

Coverage on 800MHz should match or exceed Vodafone and o2's 2G 900 MHz network, and it is expected that one or both are likely to win an allocation from that block.

Was considering a move to EE for 4G but decided it wasn't worth it as its not in my area & when I travel to london 3G is more than fast enough for me.
What I want is better coverage for making calls, texts & emails, there are times when I struggle for signal on O2.

I have 4G on my EE iPhone 5 and it's pretty damn good. Biggest advantage is that because no-one is really using it at the moment, I can upload at over 15mbit/sec at various football grounds.

Very impressive and certainly the future.

On this occasion I feel you may be better advised to wait until August and review what is available at that time. There will be so much happening through the middle of the year. You might even consider staying with what you have beyond August and see what develops. You don't HAVE to start a new contract as soon as one runs out ;)

I would wait and see what comes along mid next year, the iPhone 5 is never going to be available on any other network apart from EE on 4G, but no doubt when the next one comes out late next year that will be available on a wider range. Personally I would get a galaxy s3 LTE or a note 2 if you could upgrade now but as you say its not due till august you may as well wait, the phone industry moves so fast there will be loads of new stuff out by then!

I think I'll wait for better PAYG availability on 4G as at the moment the only way of getting it is on contract and I've never been keen on contract deals - have always gone sim free + payg like with my current iphone 5. I mainly use the phone for web & email rather than voice so payg seems better value for this type of usage.
