I am new to flash photography. I have a Canon 7D, and a 480exII external flash. All of a sudden it stopped firing tonight. I had used it for about 15 photos and then it just stopped. There were brand new batteries in the flash, and my camera battery was about 75% full. Any idea why this happened? Can anyone let me know if I had the settings wrong?
Thanks

When you say "brand new batteries" were they actually brand new and straight out the packet and are they a decent, quality make? It's not inconceivable that a set of pound-shop batteries, even new ones, will only give 15-20 full or half power bursts before they're done.

430EX II or 580EX II? There is a thermal cutout that will prevent further use for 15? minutes if the temperature in the head rises too much. Usual cause - rapid firing at full power. The manual has more detail.

Was it properly fitted to the hotshoe? Did you accidentally set the menu to prevent it firing? Is it showing fully charged but not firing or is it failing to charge?

I've recently used high power rechargable batteries from ebay
works okay ish on my YN flash but not on my canon.
well branded batteries all the way from now on!
check all the contacts. does the flash test fire with the button on the bottom left?

Another one that joined, asked a question and then didn't have the common courtesy to return....:shake:

Ah well, it happens. Probably read the instructions and worked it out for himself!
