Yes
I know I'm getting very boring :bonk: asking again about the 450D and the 40D, but this is my last question (honest!).

Which camera is the best one specification wise. I know the 40D has the better body, and all that stuff, but which one has the better 'insides'? Which one, on paper, will take the better photographs.

Thanks!

Obvious - the one with the better photographer :D

There really is so little in it that you should just buy the one you want most, follow your gut instinct neither will let you down. Allthough personally I'd take the 40D on the strength of two features the continuous shooting speed and the spinny control wheel on the back which I don't think I could live without.

9 times our of 10 you will probably end up with very similar if not identical shots from both. But on that odd occasion the extra speed available with the 40D will get you something the 450D might not.

Unless you are planning on cropping lots or making very big prints you won't notice the difference.

[edit]Doh, beaten to it![/edit]

I find the control wheel at the back and the lcd on the top of the camera very useful...

Having moved from the 400D (similar controls on back) to the 40D, I find the second wheel on the back much better, the viewfinder is much brighter and the 6.5fps rocks. 40D was a winner for me, also it means I stick with Compact Flash instead of the SD that the 450D uses.

Thanks agian for the replies, but............

As I will use this camera in a way no one else will, I'm only interested in the spec of it: the techincal spec of the photos it will take. Ergonmoics just don't come into it for me.....

Can't believe I forgot that one, wouldn't want to be without it, I use it all the time for checking settings!

The 12mp thing is a non issue for me, even 8mp will let you crop reasonably agressively or print big blow ups of landscapes without issue. Obviously 12 is nice but i's not a deal clincher it's a headline spec to attract the unsuspecting!

I think thats the problem technically they are nigh on impossible to seperate so it's always the ergonomics that it boils down too, your the only person that can decide which is best for you specialist high level use, personally provided your system can handle the weight I'd go with the 40 if you think the high speed shooting will be handy or i'd go with the 450 if the system isn't up to the weight or if you tend to crop alot.

I currently have a 30D and a 400D.
Out of the two I prefer the 30D because it feels more robust than the 400D, I feel I have to treat the 400D with kiddy gloves even with the handgrip attached to give it extra weight.
So between the 400D & the 40D I would probably go for the 40D as it has a magnesium alloy body (the same as the 30D) and just feels a better camera in my opinion.:)

Land Rover with a ruddy great pole on top of it, pseudo aerial stuff, right?

Territoral Army, Signals????

If the options are
  1. Strap 450D to bloody great aerial in windstorm from hades bottom and remotely take some pictures.
  2. Strap 40D to etc. etc. etc. etc.
Then personally I'd probably go for the marginally cheaper 450, so when the Ariel snaps and it hits the floor hard I wouldn't be overly upset.

If the 40D is as good as it's old retired mother (the 30D) it really is a superb bit of kit. the 450 equals it technically, it's just not as intuitive to use....... (by all accounts - I've only used the 300d and the 30D in anger).

Thanks. All the elevated kit we use is top professional kit (particually the mast).

The thing is, the 40D is the cheaper of the two.

Go for the 40D, there arnt really any features on the 450D that actually make it any better. It may have a 12MP sensor but the 40D's 10MP will be better at higher ISOs.

The 40D also has a better user interface and the scrollwheel is brilliant.

I am being slightly biased here I think but if the 40D is cheaper i'd say its a no brainer....

Just bought a 40D today to replace my 400D. All I can say is... WOW! :woot:

That is all. :D

Thanks!

Is the extra 2Mp the 450D has worth considering?

Thats like saying a Quadcore PC is better than a new Quadcore Mac. Fact is the mac will always be better
