Yes
I'm buying a 450D next month.

I've already set my heart on the official battery grip (Canon BG-E5 Battery Grip) and flashgun (Canon Speedlite 580EX MkII):

I've got quite a bit of money in my PayPal account that I can't withdraw. Ideally I'll be able to purchase the items with PayPal (via eBay may be good).

I'm after another battery. Does it matter whether it's official Canon or not?

I'll also need a SD card. What's the best to buy? I've heard certain cards won't work in the 450D. Will a SDHC type-6 8gb Sandisk card work in the 450D?

I haven't got a tripod either. I'm after a black tripod with a black carry bag. What do you suggest?

I also have my eyes on the Canon 100BG Camera Bag -- does anyone have any experience with this? Not much information on it except one single review on Amazon which says it's very small.

Does anyone have a bag they'd recommend? Ideally I'd like it to be official Canon but if not, I'd like it to be pitch-black and able to hold the flashgun, battery grip, 450D and a lens or two.

Anything else you'd recommend I should buy?

I have access to a decent zoom lens, but is there any other lenses I should buy in the future? I'll get the standard 18-55 lens with the camera, but what else would you suggest for normal photography? I'd like a fish eye lens. Any suggestions?

Cheers! :)

I'd definitely take the grip always useful.

For the batteries contact a seller called Kerso, on ebay but can't remember the shop name, but he stocks all sorts of batteries many of which hold more charge than official canon.

Ian (Kerso) can probably sell you everything you want for cheaper than most places, and will trade outside of eBay, saving you some money, still using PayPal

How much do you know about flash photography? If you're a total starter the 580 might be a tad overkill and the money you'd save getting a 430 might allow more money for other items.

Memory - sandisk, not many people have a problem with them compared to some other manufacturers (not that anyone is too bad, but I can't remember a sandisk failure ever) beware eBay sellers often sell fake imports.

Bag - forget canon own brand, wait until you've got more of your kit set up then go to a shop and try to fit it all in, there are hundreds of good makes including Kata, Tamrac, LowePro, Crumpler.

Lenses:
the Canon EF-S 55-250mm is meant to be very good for the price, an excellent addition to the 18-55mm kit lens.
Maybe an ultrwide like the sigma10-20mm or canon 10-22mm might be a good alternative to a fish eye, they still give a huge field of view.
50mm 1.8 is a good start for some low light work, very cheap at <£100. Other good primes that aren'ttoo expensive are the canon 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, sigma 30mm 1.4

Thanks very much!

How can I contact Ian?

I already have access to a 70-200 zoom lens that cost over £1k at the time. It's Canon and white -- what could it be?

My friend is selling me the 580 for £140 -- is this a good deal? They seem to be £300+ new on eBay!

Where's a cheap place to buy the battery grip from?

I like the suggestion of the Canon 10-22mm -- how much can these be had for? I've just had a look on Amazon and they're £600+! Is that right?

Could you please link me to a 8gb Sandisk card that'll work in my 450D? I was about to buy one and someone told me to make sure it's SDHC type-6. Can anyone confirm? I want Sandisk, and preferably a black card as all my other cards and equiptment is black too (I'm really fussy). :shake:

Any suggestions on a black tripod?

Oh and I'm also after a remote control. Do Canon do an official one for the 450D? What's the model number and where can I buy one from?

The 70-200 could be one of four - f/2.8, f/2.8 IS, f/4 or the f/4 IS. If it cose over £1K is was probably the f/2.8 IS depending how long ago it was bought.

The 580 for £140 is a good deal, it is a 580 mk 1 not 2 I'm assuming, either way it is cheaper than a 430 Mk 2 would cost new.

Cheapest place for grip - probably eBay, have a look on www.camerapricebuster.co.uk and you can check all the prices for everything.

To contact Kerso search for posts by Kerso and send him a pm.

The 10-22 is getting more and more expensive, can still get it under £500 from some places, or keep an eye on the trade section of the forum for a 2nd hand one.

For the tripod - it depends on how tall you are and what you want it for. If you get a decent one you'll need to buy the head seperately, if so would you want a pan head or a ball?

Cheers again.

I'll send Ian a PM in a moment.

It's the MkII for £140. Is that good?

I'm just after a normal tripod really. Just to keep the camera still and have 3 levels of adjustment. A ball head would be really good -- I've only used a normal flat head tripod before. Where should I look? There's literally thousands of them and I'd sooner buy something that is tried and testing, and also be able to see decent pictures of it before I order. Do you know of anything?

A black (wtf) Sandisk 8gb SDHC Class 6 will cost you nearly £30 from Play
A great tripod which is black with a black case is the Redsnapper - Redsnapper are sold by one of our members (Joe) - If you do order one make sure you mention you are a TPF member & you'll get a 10% refund (link is of the legs only but you can buy with a head too)
HTH ... Paul

Cheers for the tripod suggestion. I'll get that.

The SD card is very costly. What's the difference between SDHC and just SD? I've seen 8gb Sandisk SD cards for £12... What's the difference?

1 of the Play and Amazon are Ultra II whereas the other Play is Extreme III - Extreme III have higher write speeds in theory allowing longer continuous shooting as it clears the buffer quicker
