Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to set the Flash on the 450D to sync at lower speeds than 1/200th Sec?

If this is not possible then please advise on a compatible flash unit for the 450D that allows the user to use whatever speeds he wants (Pref 1000th sec etc etc). My budget is limited to around 60gbp.

Why do I want the Flash to sync at faster speeds you may be wondering? well I like to do Flash photography with regards to Macro and capturing insects etc etc in flight round flowers for example.

Long shot I know but if anyone can help please?

Kind Regards

James

Not 100% sure but i think you can use the 580EX to override the sync speed i know you can't with the 430EX (well im pretty sure you cant). ok so i know very little on the subject and will shut up now :exit:

only hot shoe mounted flashes can sync faster than 1/200th of second

you have a few problems here for your use! mounted flashes can be a bit high if you are ding macro work so either a off camera flash is required or a dedicated macro flash is needed.

have you tried stopping the lens down so that at 1/200s it not overblown etc?

Thanks for the info

I always stop down the lens (In my case the stock 18-55mm Lens) which gives great lighting but because the shutter speed is 200th sec Nature shots of say Bee's come out a little blurry I do wait until they settle but I like getting those shots of mid flight around say a flower.

Looked at the Macro lights you can get but I have read these give too even an illumination and make images look somewhat flat? plus the price of those seem silly for what is effectively just a ring of Led lights in a Plastic ring..

I guess I need a Flash which is rather high off the hotshoe (Not to cast shadows on the subject) and also one which I can angle..

As you guessed I am clueless with regards to flashes (Not the long Mak variety lol):D
