:thumbs:Hi guys,

I am intersted in taking some HDR images on my 450d but don't know where to start. Can anyone give me any tips?

When I have taken the images how to I merge them to get the real HDR image I am after?

Cheers
Andy

Take at least 3 exposures in manual mode, preferably in RAW. Take underexposed, exposed and over exposed. Convert the RAW's making sure the white balance is the same in each, and then you will need some software like Photomatix or Photoshop to merge them.

Cant remember if the 450d has autobracketing or not, but its just as easy to set the manual exposures anyway.

the 450D does do AEB

What sort of HDR image are you aiming for? going for the subtle or the over-cooked? did you have any subjects in mind?

The stuckincustoms tutorial is a reasonable place to start.. but doesn't produce the subtlest of HDRs.

Set you camera to AEB (auto exposure bracketing) I set 2 stops difference, some people prefere 1 stop difference.
Mount the camera on a tripod, set it to AV (so it alters the shutter rather than the apeture) on continious drive hold down the shutter button and it'll take the 3 pics and stop, I'd shoot in raw format as well to get the most out of it.
Now the HDR bit will depend on what software you use, personally I like photomatix, but some people find it complicated. Theres lots of different one, but generally you open the 3 raw pics in the hdr software and it combines them for you, it then creates a 32bit image which using the same software you tonemap, thats the bit where you choose whether you want the over the top look or subtle look.
