430exII just died - Update

Got a brand new 430EXII for christmas. Had a quick play christmas night and jut got it out to have another fiddle and it's completely dead. It was working fine. I tried accessing the 40D's flash settings via the menu's this morning but it kept saying the flash wasn't attached of was switched off when it was on and attached. It was firing then though.

On trying it just now it is completely dead. The batteries were fully charged and tried another set but it's still dead. Is it something very obvious I'm missing being a flash newby or has it died?? :thinking:
 
does its screen light up and does it fire by the test button

(so we can isolate flash vs camera fault)
 
No, the test button was lighting up red but not now and nothing on the screen shows up at all.
 
I dont suppose you could have moved the "slave" switch near the shoe?
 
Nothing seems to work, just tried more batteries and it's deader than a dead thing. As it has happened so quickly I was wondering if it's something obvious but it isn't looking good.
 
hopefully since it was for Christmas it was bought fairly recently? If so take it back for exchange and explain whats happened to it - hopefully will be a hassle free exchange
 
Bought about a month ago and has sat wrapped in its box until christmas day.
 
After sending it back it has now been fixed. It's been sent out and I should get it for Monday. But, the weird bit is when I asked if they knew what was wrong I received this...

If I said it was a damaged fuse, What would you say.
They have replaced it and tested the flash everything is working fine


Seemed a very strange thing to write, or is it just me? It came from RGB Photo, no problem with the service but this just seemed weird.
