I bought a Canon 430ex ii last week, when i opened it I though the head of flash was abit loose, compared to my yn460ii. The head of the flash moves easily without pushing the button in, only really locks with flash facing direct ahead.

Is this normal? Flash works perfect apart from this, its just bugging me!

Any help much appreciated.

It's only locked when straight forwards, if you press the button and turn the head it will move freely until it gets to 60 degrees (in either direction). From there, without pushing the button, it will click to 75 degrees, 90 degrees (it won't go any further than 90 degrees clockwise, you need the 580EX II for that), 120 degrees, 150 degrees, 180 degrees.

Thanks very much for the reply fella, Does this count for bouncing upwards? mine only locks straight ahead, then push button and you can move it to 45 degrees upwards and then backdown, only locks again straight ahead

Yep same with tilt, once you release the lock it will 'click' between certain angles. Note the 580EX II can also tilt downwards slightly too.
