Hi guys

I am looking for some help.

I have a 40d and it has started to have a problem.

The camera sat unused in the bag for about 3/4 months I wasn't inspired.

So I take it out of the bag, turn it on, shoot and it freezes.

If I don't attach a lens it goes to err 99, but with a lens attached, i shoot and then it freezes, the only way to get it solved is to turn it off and then remove battery, put it back on and then it turns on again. It focuses using the lens.

It does the same by going if I go into live view, or should I say if I try to go into live view. - it doesn't

So my question is there a solution?
Is there an easy fix?
Or will it have to be repaired? If so how much would that cost? Or am I better just picking up another 40D?

Many Thanks

Hi

I have charged the batteries, but I will give it another shot!! It is on a battery grip!

Cheers

okay, so cant do it without grip because cant find or lost the battery door.

but definately put both batteries in and fully charged, and as soon as i take it, or i goto liveview it just freezes and doesn't register any detail!!

so any other thoughts?

I read on DPreview about this problem, just after I purchased mine, I don't want to sound pessimistic but it sounds like shutter /mirror box failure.

Thread is located here

There's a thread currently running somewhere on the forum about Canon fixed price repairs, someone mentions the 40D shutter replacement price in that thread if I remember rightly.

My 40D used to do this...and still does (even after a shutter replacement). It only happens for me when there is a dead battery (or just 1 battery) in the grip. I have never been able to work it out. Works fine without the grip, but just seems to need two charged batteries in the grip.

As above make sure the battery door isn't in the slot for it on the the grip ;)

thanks people, battery door isn't there. I have definately put two fully charged batteries in.

I don't know if i should replace this or get it repaired, especially if it might happen again!!

Any suggestions!
