40d setting burst modes?

Hello

was shoting at the NW200 bike race at the weekend and discovered the 40d can shoot upto 17raw images in a bust or 60jpeg...

I noticed this when playing about with the custom functions (c1-c2-c3) but when i went and set the camera to manual, i could only shoot 6 per burst.

I tried setting assigning manaul mode to one of the custom function locations but it reduced it down to 6 as well :(

my problem is i use a few M42 lenses which need manual mode to correct exposures and all the custom modes seem to be auto until you asign it one, but then it kills the burst rate.

any ideas?
 
Just tried it on my 40D and burst was working fine for more than 6 frames. What other settings are you using - AF mode, drive mode, etc?
 
Was using AI servo mostly (no mode shows when i put the M42's on all manual) with the rapid 6.5fps drive, 100-640iso.

Could well be the card, hadnt thought of that. its an 8gb samsung job, supposed to be fast if the ebay ad was good lol but for £18 it could actually be my problem!
 
Did you use the same card that when getting >6 frame burst in other modes?
 
I had this problem....can't remember if I fixed it or not but I have a feeling that with certain CF on it reduced to 6.
 
If you have Noise Reduction for High ISO on or Highlight Tone Prioritythen it restricts the burst speed
