Hi all, just got a 40D from lnk in the classifieds, however, I can read the RAW files. Have a quick search shows that there isn't a RAW plugin for the original CS (not CS2/CS3 etc). Is that right? I got CS cheap s/h and it does everthing that I need, which isn't a lot. So do not want to fork out to upgrade, esp as I'm unemployed!! Also, just downloaded the Canon raw plugin for WinXP, but that doesn't seem to have done anything, apart from screwing up my 20D RAW files, which I cannot open now :( Any ideas?

Sorry to be the tidings of bad news, but ACR 4.2 is required for direct processing of 40D Raws, and ACR 4.x works only with PS CS3.

You could use lightroom and then use that to further open in photoshop, or use the canon utility that comes with the camera and converts to DNG. I think that opens in any photoshop.

If you haven't got the software you can download from the canon site.

I was afraid of that!! So CS3 min then :(
Do any of the PS Elements work?

I have photoshop cs. I also have bought photoshop elements 7. However, you could use canon dpp program that come free with the camera. That would allow you to convert the raw files and do some processing prior to transfer to photoshop cs.

You can download a DNG converter from Adobe for free www.adobe.com/dng/ and then open the files with Photoshop CS as long as you have ACR 2.4 (which should also be available as a download)

Thanks grumpy. It's a bit long winded, but this is what I have done to get this.

And thanks for everyone else's suggestions.
