Ok.......brand spanking new 40D from WE....open the box like a child with a trainset and then.......no UK plug adapter or plug for the charger????!!!!

Is that right???

My understanding is it MUST have UK compatible electrics.

Yeah you should have the UK adapter - could be a mistake at packing at Canon I guess, but does sound a bit odd. Would call WE and say it sounds a bit dubious and that you aint impressed, see what they offer. They might just offer to send out the UK adaptor, but if you aint happy I would try for a whole new box. WE are normally pretty good at customer relations.

Odd. Thanks that confirms it then. Ill get them to send a cable. It was all sealed etc. Popping to a friends to get his cable lol

Do Canon normally ship their UK gear as American gear with a UK adapter ? or do you get UK gear with a UK plug.
Dunno if it makes any difference but I'd ship it back, US voltage is 110, UK is 240.
The charger might be dual voltage, who knows ?

Yeah I think you usually get both. My mate has two cables with moulded plugs 1 euro and 1 uk.

My uk is missing.

Yep - just checked my 40D box and I have both plugs.

Both here also

With my 40D the charger had 2 pins that slide out. I had one of those shaver sockets (2 pin to 3 pin) and thats worked well for me.

Isn't the US charger actually completely different to the UK one? A slide out 2 pin charger denotes a grey import AFAIK.

Flip the charger unit over and check that it's dual voltage. I think they all are even the US ones, but check.

If the lead terminates in a normal Figure 8 socket, and you need one quickly you could always try your local electrical store.

Maplin stock them

There is no lead with the US charger as the plug is built in. This is the US charger:

Whereas I believe this is the UK charger (which connects to the mains outlet via a lead):

If you have the US charger it's a grey import!

Please excuse me for going slightly off topic with this, but how does a grey market work in the UK?

The companies can buy them bulk for a hell of a lot cheaper.
eg..they buy for say $800 and sell for £800..Doubling their money.
This sounds like WE maybe be guilty of a little Naughtiness.
Send it back and demand a SEALED UK Unit.

Do you read? The OP received a camera with only an EU cable. It is an EU camera (by definition cannot be a grey import). It seems that the UK cable was simply omitted.

As for US working, I have a 20D with a US charger, and I can use a straight converter (not voltage converting) to charge. Almost all chargers nowadays are multi voltage.

The camera itself is, obviously, identical.

I prefer the US charger. All my electronic devices either came with US plug, or have a slot-in US plug. When I travel, I use the US plug as it's more portable (swivel out vs the 3 prong brick that is the UK plug) and it's more universal.

No, he obviously doesn't as the OP stated JUST that they had a new camera from WE and that there was "no UK plug adapter or plug for the charger?". So quite likely that three was a cable missing or it's a grey import!

I had the same problem from somewhere else.....there was no adapter in the box, I started panicking then a few hours later went to throw some rubbbish away and the adapter was loose in the bag the box was posted in:bonk::lol:

I think it's just a packing error at Canon. Everything else is there as expected. Box is marked as UK battery stock.
