I've noticed a few problems with my 40D recently; it seems to have a slight tendency to back-focus that appears to have been gradually getting worse.

In addition to this sometimes when using it with the 580EXII the flash fails to fire, and the whole lot needs turning off / on again (sometimes with battery removal from the camera) to sort it out. I'm off to scour for possible solutions but think it's probably time I gave it a birthday and got it serviced (it's 3yrs old with over 40k shutter actuations).

Can anyone recommend somewhere (Canon approved) to sort this out, and how much it's likely to cost (is there a flat rate?)

Cheers :)

Canon at Elstree did mine for a flat fee of 153 quid, good turnaround time too.

New DC/DC board, sensor clean and I noticed they removed some old tat that has been visible through the view finder for ages.

Thanks for the guidance

Will get quotes from both an add this to the "to do when I have some money" list :)

Bit of an update for anyone who's in a similar situation.

Just gave Canon Elstree a call who've quoted £156.50 flat rate inc parts, VAT and return delivery, with 6 months warranty. Only stuff that's not covered is faults arising from damage or misuse.. which I'm hoping isn't the case with mine :)

Canon elstree service is great - not sent a body there but had to sent a lens. Had it back in about 5 days good as new!
