Yes
Had a serious heads up on the 40D.

10.2 mp, anti dust system, 1.6 crop, similar build to the 30D but with the new digi 3 processor evident in the new mark 3 with lovely 400+ ISO noise levels. 5 fps.

I for one am interested in these!

Announcement due in Aug.

That's gonna be a nice camera! :)

Yep, think I will be getting one in to kick start some other types of snapping for me, 10-20mm for a start. Lovely.

I REALLY want one, but after just having to shell out for a new PC as old one is foobared I might have to wait a while :(

Meh. Pretty much as I expected. 2 more MP and I'm still getting 30x20 prints from 6.4 MP. Dust never bothers me. Already got 5fps. The ISO performance on the 30D is already fantastic imho. I often shoot 1600 and occasionally 3200. As I do a lot of black and white it looks great. Seems like a typical Canon upgrade. Just a few new features. If it had ISO6400 then I'd be impressed.

If this is accurate info this camera will be serious competition in the D200 market:thinking:

Here's hoping all the people who write those stupid camera mag comparisons will catch on to something that is a closer shot on apples with apples.

Where did you get this info Diego?:whistling:

It wont tempt me to upgrade from the 20D, but it's cool to see the bar being raised again on prosumer cameras. Obviously those buying new should go for it. I'd like to have seen some weather sealing and then it would have been a more realistic competitor to the D200.

If this info is accurate the 30D is already a serious competitor to the D200. It has better noise handling, has 5fps, 8 mp is good enough for poster size prints and its a such a great price these days.

This might just tempt me enough to upgrade from my 300d...! I think the best guess on the announcement date is the 3rd week in August isn't it? So that's only a month to wait :)

Anyone know how long after an announcement they tend to appear on the market? It seemed like quite a while with the mkIII recently

Agreed in all aspects and ,of course, CT has a valid point with the weather sealing.

I just did not want to make this such an obvious can-opener moment!
:D

I'd say 2-3 months after the announcement date - also allow for the first firmware bugs to be ironed out...:p

From what I remember of the August launches, the cameras are usually out sometime in September.

Whaddayaknow...
I buy a 30d after months of umming and erring, and now this....
Still, a brilliant camera, and from Kerso, a great price, but even he is selling them now at a lower price, I gather....
The moral is, is you want something cheap, wait till I have bought one and a newer model will appear soon after (happened with my hifi - I bought Naim gear that had been around with very little change for years, and a month later, a whole new range came out..

Well if that's true Steve can you go and buy an A100 so Sony might spill the beans on when the new models are coming out.

No Kev - but for Canon users, I have just bought a 10-22, 24-105, 50/1.8, and 75-300, so these will all be in the bargain bin within minutes - you mark my words..

I'm still waiting for the mk111 to be available and AF sorted. I need a second body and a compramise between Full frame and 1.6. I already have a 20D which is great.

Steve, the 10-22 and the 24 - 105 will always hold a price and the 50mm 1.8 has always been a £60.00 bargain!

This is a camera that might tempt me on from my 20D - or at least purchase and keep the 20 as backup.
Looking forward to reading a few reviews :)

Before we get carried away lets wait for the real specs.
If it comes with Digi 3 (which it will) then ISO 6400 is a given.

You think? Wouldn't it make good business sense to limit it to the 1d3?

The 30D was a fairly small upgrade of the 20D, more of a 20D MkII, which makes it 3 years since Canon made a significant upgrade to its prosumer level DSLR so I would guess Canon will make it a major upgrade this time.

I also think the 40D will have Live View :)

I really hope you're right. They do need a big boost on that range.

10.2 mp, 5 fps.

Sorry to put a downer on this but the D200 already offers this and has done for a few years now. The only major difference will be noise as the newer tech will be able to handle this better.

If this is the actual spec, then to be honest it just sounds like a slap together more than anything else.

I know your all thinking that I am pro Nikon as I use their kit but it wasnt until last week I decided not to switch to Canon. I was on the verge, litterally and almost clicked buy on a 1D MkIIn! :naughty: Notch knows why as I allocated funds elsewhere.

Anyway,...

Sits back and waits for the flak,...

Live view would be interesting, but would prefer better noise handling personally :p or as others have said weather proofing. Will be interesting to see what appears anywho :)

Taken from BobAtkins, I read this last week here.

Same as 30D (Spot metering, screen etc)
PLUS

APS-C Sensor Size
EFS Mount
10, maybe 12 MP.
Digic III processor
Antidust
Same buffer
Same 5fps
No eye focus
No weathersealing.
Live-view a possibility (Considering it's mainly firmware). Would also be unique to that pricepoint.

-=======-

They all sound sensible to me. New invetiable features like antidust, 10mp etc, and some possible exciting new ones like Live View to break the market, and make the purchase a clincher.

Hardly any reason for it. D200 or 30D, both great cameras that produce great shots from great photographers. 2mp isn't a reason for me to upgrade.

No one knows the specs yet (well, i guess the people from Canon do, but we sure don't!) so it's all just guesses anyway :)

I for one just hope it's at least 5fps, has a decent buffer size, good AF, a big viewfinder, and maybe some sort of weather sealing :) oh and it better handle high ISO well too!

The 40D is only rumor and speculation at this stage as is the MK III 1Dn (22MP)

I think it may be called the 1DsMIII and we are likely to see that before the 40D..;)

Start saving chaps..

I know how much storage is required using the 16.7 Megapixel 1DsMII so God help anyone using 22 Megapixel every shot..

Well, I was told by Canon last week that the 40D is coming, I did not make that up.....
