Yes
just got off the phone from a relative who is in the US on business and flying back tomorrow, he knows i am into photography so went looking for bargains for me.

He asked the question "Is the equivelent of £570 ok for a 40D, and if so, do you want one?"

:thinking::thinking:

Now the problem is i have just bought a 30d 18-55mm kit, but the upgrade will only cost me £100 ish.

What to do :suspect:  :help:

i suspect i will end up telling him to go ahead and get it, after all i have nothing to lose.

He also mentioned a MACK Worldwide warranty, but did not tell me how much.

Thats a very reasonable price, infact a 400D in the UK isn't much cheeper than that

What happens with the warranty?

need to find out from him / or the MACK site.

Looking into it as we speak.

Looks like my just delivered 30D and 18-55mm Kit is going back on the for sale forum.

Could be hit for customs duty and vat which would be in the region of 25%, at present you can still only bring back £145 worth of goods, this is being raised to £1000 but not yet, an international mack warranty for 3 years will be about £40 or £60 for 5 years.

thats a big IF.

what he's done in the past is ship the packaging to the UK seperately, and put the body in hand luggage. :suspect:

In theory customs might challenge it, and you'd be in trouble, but the chances are vey slight, I imagine.
That is one advantage from buying from kerso, you get a UK invoice and leave the rest to him, although you pay a wee bit more compared to buying in the US, but remember the tourist rate is about 1.90 at the moment, even if the mid rate is 2.01.
The poor banks have to make their money somehow:razz::razz::razz:

If he got stopped he'd have a bit of a problem explaining how he had been taking pictures without a lens.:)

he's picked up a 50mm 1.8 for me anyway, so could 'wing it' that way hopefully

One he could get away with through customs (Hopefully), but two or three is asking for the full body cavity search! :D

how about posting them and saying they low value gift seems to work from Hong Kong

What happens when they get trashed in the post with low insurance ?.

As for Canon Warranty, its not valid out of the USA. Canon UK wont touch it, unless your paying for the repair.

I would risk it for the savings that will be made..;)

Congrats!

TA!

30D will be in the for sale forum tuesday ish (If an interested party cannot convince his wife ;) )

Chillimonster,I'd be grateful for an idea where he got that price, I usually use B+H in N York for an indication of the best US price, and they are currently advertising (and don't have in stock) the D40 at $1350, ie £675 at the rate of $2/£.

is the link, so I can't see the price of £570 as a possibility. Are you sure it's a 40D and not a 30D?...hope not!!

Sory, it is $1300

Sorry, I can't spell sorry, and of course I mean a 40 D. Must be the sun!!

will find out when i speak to him.

He may be out on the conversion, but anything this side of £600 and i'm smiling :D

Great, all the best with it!!

a good score indeed, well done.....think yourselves lucky you're not living in Italy, I got slugged a 215 euro customs duty on a lens I have owned for six months. I had it sent out from Australia after moving as it needed repairs under warranty. It was either pay up or leave it to rot! Is my experience unusual for Europe or the norm?

Big day today, Chilimonster!!

Hey Chilimonster, has it arrived???

My brother lives in NJ. theres a camera shop in NY selling for $999.99 on special.
Thats less than £500:eek:
My lens came from the US and holds a Canon International warranty, Canon say that a UK warranty will be dealt with before an Intl one if the claim is made in the UK, but is still as valid.

Thats what i was told anyway.
Dean:)

Dino, can you find out which one if possible?

I am pretty sure that warranties for bodies are only valid in the country of purchase where Lenses are worldwide.

be good to find out which shop is selling at that price, ive been searching for two weeks on usa camera shop sites and cant find any less than $1,299(£640) and will be in canada at the end of the month where its much more exspensive to buy because of there tax system.

I bought mine from Jessops on Friday. Walked into the local shop and paid £840 with a full three year warrenty plus accidental cover.

And having upgraded from a 300D - boy is it good :D

The price was from an internet site found in a US magazine.
I have asked for the mag to be sent to me.
Dean:)

Dino, any news on the 40D?

Spoke to lil bro, it seems on further investigation, the camera price was the equivalent when buying an L series lens, (he dosent know which one,) at the same time.
Sound's okay still, if you are willing to pay out an extra £500 on a lens!!!
Theres always a bl**dy catch.:(

Dean:)
