HELP....

Since i shot my first RAW shot last week my frame rate on the 40d has dropped noticeably. i think it's meant to be 6FPS but it sounds more like 2 or 3, or like a 1/10th exposure, if you know what i mean.

What might have caused this?

I've changed both batteries, and the little date + time one, taken grip off and tried, cleaned contacts on lens and body, tried another lens, changed cards? next resort is to try and fix it with a hammer...

Really would appreciate some help on this one

Cheers
Charlie

Have you checked the settings, the 40 has 2 high speed modes 6 fps and 3 fps have you acidently swapped to the latter?

Are you are shooting RAW in continuous/burst mode? If so, it might slow down due to the larger RAW file size compared to JPEG and the buffer in the camera is not large enough to keep up with the shots being taken.

1: how would i check High ISO NR? i've got the book out but could save time if anyone knows

2: it's on High, the little icon on the top LCD has 2 burst settings, one is just the symbol, other is the symbol with the letter 'H' next to it.

3: shooting raw continuous, little number inside LCD suggests 17 RAW's till buffer is full. i'm using genuine sandisk extreme 3 cards....

Thanks so far
Charlie

Good point, I was going say about the buffer memory filling up too quick :)

right, having changed from cbust H to 3fps burst and back it started machine gunning, let the buffer clear and tried again, nope back to slow fps....cock

have you tried back to jpegs.?

obviously the raws are loads bigger... and will slow things down.

back to jpeg and no difference, will machine gun at times, let the buffer clear and it slows down...

sounds like a card issue..... may be wrong though?

have tried 4 cards, all bought from reputable sellers and sandisk cards, none showing the signs of being fake (wrong numbers, stickers etc)

Are you set to AI Servo?

My 30D slows down very noticbly with Servo+RAW. 50D takes a bit of a knock, but not as pronounced.

Typically it'll also sound a bit slow, slow, quick, quick, slow if you know what I mean.

Is the card fast enough for the large files being created? If it was 6fps, it would probably be more than 60mb/s...

Sounds like the buffer isn't clearing for some reason

Have you tried reseting the camera to defaults, maybe worth a go.

edit- and formatting the card
