Long story short; was shooting some cityscapes off the tripod using live view, battery ran out and when replaced the camera gave the above message.

Bit of a brown trouser moment as half my holiday shots were on there.. removed and replaced the battery and got the same message, did the same with the card and all was well again.

Was shooting on an practically new Extreme 3 8Gb card which had been formatted in camera prior to use.

I've never had a similar problem in the past and havn't tried to recreate it.. I'm thinking / hoping that it's a glitch perculiar to the factors involved (LV + Battery failure etc) rather than a sign of impending knackerage.

The shutter cound has just rolled over 20k and the camera has been faultless otherwise.

Has anyone else had this before / have any thoughts?

Cheers :)

I *think* its when it rolls over on the 10k shot it creates a new folder for the following numbers, something to do with it not having the folder there and having to create one.

Thanks for the reply - this did cross my mind but the fault didn't correspond exactly with it rolling round the clock, although it was perhaps within 10 or 20 actuations.

It didn't do this at 10k, but then the battery didn't die on that occasion either.

Fingers crossed it isn't going to fall to pieces in my hand the next time I try to use it :p
