Just had the 40D 17-85 kit delivered today.
Now I am a bit confused as to what exactly is the cashback amount on this kit. Most retailers are listing it as having £70 cashback and a few are listing it as £50 cashback. In the cashback leaflet that came with the camera there is mention of £50 c/back with the body and £20 c/back with the lens, but, there is no mention of £70 c/back with the kit.
Before finaly buying mine from Dixons online I had enquired at Jessops and they informed me that there were two barcodes with the kit, one for the body and one for the lens. On my box there is only one barcode and that is for the kit. With what I have bought I fail to see how I can claim more than £50. Looked in on the warehouse express and their kit boxes are different to the one I have.
So what is it £70, or, as I suspect only £50

it's £70.

The online Cashback form on canon's site confirms this (Dont have the address to hand, but i'm sure someone will be along with it soon!)

Mmmm. I am still not convinced on this one.
Can anyone recall what the cashback was on the kits last time?, I went to the Canon site to look at their previous promotions but they have pulled them from their site listing only the latest ones. (maybe because you could see that it was £100 cashback on the 17-85 IS last time compared to only £20 this time:thumbsdown:)

I suppose (if I had to) it could be argued that although I am buying a kit I am still , according to their terms purchasing a body and a lens qualifying for £50 +£20 cashback, on the other hand they may say the kit is a separate deal where it already equates to a substantial discount on the lens!
Before I send in the (one) barcode I have I would like to have it confirmed what the actual cashback is so unless someone comes along to confirm this I will probably try and seek an answer from Canon Uk.

Its £70.

As i have just filled out my forms to get the cash back.

Ahh,so when you fill in the online forms it clearly states £70 for the kit, looks like problem solved then.
The only other thing I need is a valid receipt from Dixons as there was not one with the camera. I have emailed them asking for one.

Yes.

There is a drop down selection box. You need to highlight or select the 40D + 17-85IS Kit Lens

It says on there its £70.00

I got mine from Jessops, so the chappy printted off 2 for me. :D

Thanks

Andy

Cheers Andy all filled in and ready to go.

Will there be another cashback offer soon like the £100 of the 17-85.

i wouldn't mind one for £210

It was such a good deal it had me thinking they were about to drop that lens from their line-up I also remember at the time there was a rush of them on ebay from the speculators :)

>>>I wouldn't mind one for £210<<<

If you fancied trading up to the 40d 17-85 kit with a bit of savvy buying you could end up with a bargain 40D and depending on which way you view what you have paid, compared to separate prices, you could end up with an even better bargain on the lens. (if that all makes any sense to you)

Thanks to wills on the suppliers, shopping and bargains forum I took advantage of this from his post.

>>>HIGH5' (I'm not sure when it expires) gives you 5% off (£47.17) £896.37.

If you have an Egg card go via their website for 3% instant cashback (£26.89) £869.48

And then Canon cashback £70 leaves £799.48 for the kit.

You could sell the lens on an auction site for maybe £220 and you would have a 40D body for about £580<<<

I had an egg card so I paid £869.48

High5 has now expired but if you look on the dixons site or the HotUKdeals site or forum you may find another discount coupon.
